“Good value and friendly staff.”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

I had a short stay in this friendly run lodge and a really pleasant time. First off its worth saying that the view from the balcony in front of my room was wonderful. People may complain about walking up a hill to get to the accommodation but it's only about 2 minutes of steep hill and without the walk you don't get to see those sights.

The place could do with a little bit of investment but the heart of it is in the right place and the staff were really nice and more than happy to give advice or help you out if you needed anything.

Good value for money.

We stayed at Reavers Lodge over the Christmas period for 2 weeks and wish we had booked somewhere else.

The lodge filled up with young teenagers throughout the Christmas period so was running wild with loud and noisy drunks. You couldn't really use the kitchen in the evening as the area was full of kids playing drinking games. There were also soiled sheets left outside our room on the balcony for over two days which was absolutely discusting and should put you off before even reading the rest of the review!

As we were staying for two weeks we asked if our room could be cleaned once in the middle of our stay and all they did was chuck some clean towels on our bed. The duvet is horrible, they just stick an unwashed duvet between two sheets and it's so foul it would actually wake me up in the night if I touched it.

They also always overbook this place which is something we had issues with. We added an extra night to our stay nearly two months before arriving and we received a rude and unapologetic email telling us we would be moved from our double room into bunk beds as they couldn't allocate us anywhere. There was also nothing we could do about it as they sent the email just before the head office shut on the Friday night and it didn't open again until the Monday morning 11am nz time. There was nothing that reception could do either as the bookings are controlled by a head office in Australia. A number of the receptionists told us this was a massive problem for them and the place was constantly over booked by their head office. Thankfully one of the nice receptionists had a no-show in a double loft room and so put is in there. The loft room was actually quite nice and if it wasn't for the drunk teenagers, dirty sheets and room mix up we would have probably enjoyed our stay but there's no way I would take the risk of staying here! You also end up dreading the steep climb back up the hill to the hostel as it's not like you've even got something to look forward too. This place really put a downer on our Christmas and New Year in Queenstown.

Room Tip: Just don't stay here!

I stayed at Reavers lodge in five weeks.
The view is amazing, and its only 10 minutes from town!
A great place to stay as a backpacker - and the breakfast is included, could'nt be better!
But I can give my great thanks to the amazing staff - Byron, Dean, Rachel, Jack, Wendy and Tong - they made my stay amazing!
Clean rooms, hot tub and a good place to be if you dont want any noise.
At Reavers you get more quiet nights, and the staff at Reavers are absolutely more friendlier then anybody else! You won't regret it!

I stayed at Reavers Lodge for 2 nights. It was noisy and drunks were coming home at 3.00 am. When I made a complaint the first night all I got from them was sorry and that they would do something about it. They did nothing.
The 2nd night was worse. This is the worst place I have ever stayed at. I was also charged
for 3 nights instead of 2. It has taken 1 phone 3 emails and 5 weeks to get my money
back...Beware!

Doug Cameron.

Room Tip: dont get a room overlooking the court yard.you may as well sleep in a park.

This is really for backpackers. Unless you are willing to put up with noise and creaky soft beds, this may be a place for you. Not friendly staff, dirty, awful toilet and no facilities available after 10pm. No coffee or tea except in the cafeteria which closes at 11pm. Car parking if you are lucky to find one. Not suitable for family or guests who wants a relaxing night.

Reavers Lodge caters for backpackers and young teens, which wasn't obvious from their website when we booked. It was a bad time to be there (just before New Years Eve) and the place was full of young teens drinking all hours and being generally noisy, hanging around the balcony outside our room so we couldn't enjoy the views and a bit of quiet. Breakfast was basic and cheap, compared to other Continental breakfasts we experienced elsewhere - 3 "juices" available which were just coloured water (red, green and orange), no fruit, and basic homebrand bread, margarine and spreads. No room to move in the bathroom, pretty cramped space. Not worth the money we paid.
