Despite booking numerous months prior to the trip and then reconfirming numerous time when and where we were to be picked up in the morning the inevitable happened...they forgot us. A family of four with two children were left standing in the dark and rain for an hour wondering where the coach was. Eventually we managed to make contact with Mitre Peak who blamed their transport provided and left it to them to help us. Fortunately we were picked up by the amazing Stu of Awesome NZ coach who took care of us. No apologies from Mitre Peak.

Kia Ora,
I am sorry your experience with our Coach Cruise Coach didn’t meet yours or our expectations. I remember this situation and Greyline didn’t ticket your booking so it didn’t show up on their end in the morning, when I called them to see what had happened I thought it would be easier for you to deal with them directly instead of having a middle person as they we making other plans for you, I am sorry that by me doing this you felt I wasn’t taking responsibility as we should have triple checked your booking was confirmed on all ends.
This is not what Mitre Peak Cruises stands for and I do apologise that you and your family where left behind!
I hope regardless of this you still enjoyed your day travelling to and in Milford Sound!
Please feel free to contact us if you wish to discuss this further and we will be more than happy to help - Office@mitrepeak.com

We had originally planned to kayak through the Sound, but given the intense winds and rain, we decided to alter our plans to a scenic boat cruise instead.
Mitre Peak were wonderful hosts, and the smaller vessel made the experience more personal and intimate. We got closer to many of the landmarks.
Our guide was excellent (also a Canadian!) and had many fascinating facts to share about Milford Sound.
Given the lack of visibility and the heavy rain - our experience was overall very enjoyable! And we eventually dried off...
Also, the tour provided hot beverages, which were very much needed on the cold rainy day.

Thank you for your amazing review! We are glad you picked us to travel with on a rainy day, we think it is the best day to travel especially when it rains as very heavy waterfalls come from everywhere. We will definitely let our skippers and crew know the thanks you gave them. Sorry you weren’t able to go Kayaking, thank you for choosing Mitre Peak Cruises.

We arrived in Milford Sound in the late afternoon and lucked out in that the weather was absolutely beautiful. Even though we were already scheduled to go on a boat cruise the following morning, we wanted to go out while we could appreciate the sunshine (the next day's forecast was for rain), so we went over to the docks and jumped on the last tour of the day with Mitre Peak. I can't tell you how happy we are that we did so -- Mitre Peak has much smaller boats than Southern Discovery or any of the other tour operators, so we were able to get a lot closer to the shore to see penguins/seals, and the captain found a whole pod of dolphins that wanted to swim around and play with boat, so we got to interact with those too (the bigger boats can't get as close to the dolphins -- moreover, we appreciated how the captain took us near to the dolphins and then let the dolphins decide whether they wanted to engage with us, which they did!). Moreover, we were having so much fun letting the dolphins chase us and play in our wake that the captain allowed us to keep the boat out for an extra few minutes - we were late getting back to the dock, and much happier for it.

We did end up going out with Southern Discovery the next morning, as planned, and the experience wasn't nearly as special -- the Southern Discovery boats were huge, way more crowded, and lacked the ability for spontaneity that we were afforded on our evening trip. I think size really matters for these tours, and here smaller definitely wins.

Wow, thank you for the amazing review! We are glad that you had the chance to see dolphins, seals and penguins, we don’t always see dolphins so you were very lucky to see them playing with the boat. Being a small company with a small boat we do like our customers to see mammals and waterfalls for that little bit extra time. Having the last cruise of the day does give us more time to explore. We hope to see you again next time you travel to Milford.

We chose to go with Mitre Peak as we heard they were good in terms of the small boat getting close to waterfalls and not as many people. Our cruise was nice, Emily was a very knowledgeable guide and spent time out the front with us telling us about the area. It was easy to get good views and it didn’t feel crowded.
