We did this cruise after a fantastic flight from Wanaka with Southern Alps Air. The commentary was great, the boat comfortable with free refreshments available. The scenery is out of this world, awe dropping, huge cliffs, amazing waterfalls and plenty of wildlife.

If you get the chance don't miss the opportunity to go on this cruise, you won't regret it.

We loved this company and especially the smaller boat. At one of the stops, we were within 2-3 feet of the seals on the rock - you can't get any closer. We also went next to the cliffs and those riding in the front of the boat could be under the waterfall - you had ample warning if you didn't want to be there. I will certainly recommend this company to my travel customers who are planning on visiting New Zealand.

Hello Ken K
Thank you for taking the time to review our cruise. We are stoked that you enjoyed our cruise.
It is a great experience to get up and close to our native wildlife and the size of our boats enable us to provide this for our customers. The smaller boats are also handy if you want to have a good soak under the waterfalls and for those who are not so brave; we have a cover on our top deck so that you can have the full experience without getting wet.
Thanks again from the Team at Mitre Peak Cruises

First, we enjoyed the cruise at Milford. The weather was great, which is the key to enjoying Milford Sound. Plan your trip to allow some flexibility on when to visit Milford depending on the weather. But, the cruise could have been better had the young crew put a little more effort and enthusiasm. Especially, the commentary could have been better. They all looked like they had hangovers!

Thank you for your review on our cruise. We are glad you got sunny weather, but in Milford all weather is great as you get to see the different sides of Milford Sound. When it is raining we get hundreds of waterfalls cascading down the sides of the mountains and cloudy days create a great atmosphere for photographs. We are sorry that you felt that our crew was not up to par, we always try to make an effort to be friendly and engaging to our customers so it is disappointing to hear that you were not happy with us, feedback has been passes on to the team here at Mitre Peak Cruises.

Loved it!!! This tour offers a more personal service to the large charters in the sound. Our skipper was Brad & guide was Mika. The boat is smaller with seating upstairs on deck for 10/12 people - our group was only 14 or so. We went right in along the coastline, unlike the bigger cruisers who follow a more central path down the sound, giving you a real sense of the height of the fjord & up close viewing if the seals. The commentary was informative & varied it covered everything from the history to formation to wildlife, sea patterns etc with enough quiet time to enjoy the views. Mika was constantly available to provide more info, answer questions of share some gems he picked up on his adventures along the fjord. We even went the whole way out to the Tasman sea to experience the roaring 40's to get a sense of the swells you could face out there. If your prone to seasickness have no fear that section doesn't last long & before you know it your back in the calm clear water of the fjord. I'd definitely encourage you to go with mitre peak if nothing else you know there is no kickbacks being awarded!!

Thank you for your post. It takes a special type of person to live and work in Milford due to its remoteness, owing to this the staff here are very passionate about the area, have a great knowledge and sense of pride for this special part of the country and they love to pass it on. We do cruise right out of the fiord and into the Tasman Sea which allows our passengers to gain a further understanding and appreciation of Milford Sound.
Thanks again for your recommendation !
