Located just out of the city centre (a 10 minute walk or so), our motel unit was light, airy and clean. It was well appointed and spacious, with a separate bedroom and an additional bed in the living area. Had we been staying more than one night, we could have eaten in as the unit had a stove, electric frypan, toaster, good sized fridge, and so on.

With temperatures around 12 degrees C (or less), we were very appreciative of the fast working effective heating system in the main room, plus the blower heater in the bedroom, and heater in bathroom.

Going on a recommended from the helpful staff, we had a great meal at the local suburban restaurant, the Saucy Chef (cnr Andrew and Sydney streets), a 5-10 minutes walk away from the motel. The food was sophisticated and gratifyingly included sweetbreads, venison, pork and wild hare, with the meals substantial in size, well cooked and delicious. It was very well patronised by the locals.

Re access, the Tower Motel was a bit hard to access as road works were in progress on Queens Drive re broadband installation, a temporary hiccup that should be sorted by February, if not before.

Re summer, don’t forget to draw the blinds if you want a good sleep. This far south, twilight is prolonged, with light in the sky still at 10 pm, and the first light the next morning around 3.30 am and the dawn chorus in evidence.

Room Tip: All rooms were on ground level, which was very convenient. Our room was about one third of the lengt...

Found this motel on TA, and was grateful to get a room rather late in the day. Very well located, immaculately clean, and very comfortable. We had a studio which is all you need, and still had kitchen facilities, with a large bathroom. Highly recommend staying here.

The TripAdvisor community steered us right on this one.

Very warm welcome by Dawn (owner), who provided in-depth orientation to Invercargill, and spent many minutes calling for a dinner reservation (we loved our meal at Buster Crabb - MANY VEGETARIAN options on menu!).

The hotel is of the more modest family-type variety (not a luxury facility), but an extremely nice one of its kind, and very nicely outfitted (new carpet, comfy beds), comfortable, very clean…the kind of place you can walk in barefoot if you choose!

We were put in a lovely, large 2-bedroom apartment. We loved it. Wish the stay was longer than just the one night we had allotted.

Room Tip: Because we needed a two bedroom unit, we were placed in a huge free-standing apartment with a full l...

We were greeted by a very friendly owner. The room was clean and the bed comfy. Microwave and cooking facilities. Walking distance to gardens and aviary. Small playground for children, wifi. Well ventilated room.
Small complex.

Tower lodge motel is what an NZ motel should be. Very clean, spotless actually, spacious, just on the outskirts of town, very friendly hosts. Forget the Kelvin or Ascot Park this will be where we stay in invergiggle from now on!

Even after reading all the favorable reviews on TripAdvisor, we were still surprised by how nice this motel is and by how friendly and helpful Dawn was. It is hard to believe that a motel this old could be so clean and so well appointed and decorated. It has lots of extras you wouldn't expect. Before she even checked us in, Dawn had found out where we had been and where we planned to go and gave us some great advice on things to do. We would recommend this motel without reservation.

This motel is amazing value and the proprietors are a wealth of knowledge about the local area. We didn't expect much from accommodation in Invercargill but we sure were pleasantly surprised when we arrived here and were shown to our room. Like other reviews have attested, this hotel has been recently refurbished and it is a hidden treasure with its new carpet and good quality fittings. WiFi is free here which again ads to the overall value of this establishment. The bed that we had in our room was a king bed with a comfortable mattress and good pillows, we had a very good night sleep here. We went with the proprietors recommendation the following day and visited the museum to see the 160yo Lizard (Harry), this was well worth the trip as he is very unique.

Overall we would recommend the Tower Lodge as a great place to stay.
