Description: We have a lovely warm and inviting restaurant. We use all locally sourced product with very generous servings with an emphasis on the meat portion of the meal. Our steaks are 250gms up to the "Donald Trump Choker", which is 500gm and cooked slowly over 20 hours. We use fresh Blue Cod and locally caught wild Venison. Buster Crabb is the best choice

I love the ambience of the restaurant and the food is divine. Service is lovely and friendly, as a really good feel to it. Plus I highly recommend their Banoffee Cheesecake, delicious.

The service by the courtesy coach to the wait staff was of a high standard, well done. The addition of light curtains between areas great improvement to ambience. The small room at the front entrance to the left requires more adequate heating. Previously dined here it was freezing, this time it was a warmer night, but still cool, suggest another heat pump (floor one). Food expensive for the standard, recommend owner visit other restaurants in the city to compare what is available. Need to revamp sharing platter. Payment area extremely congested. Definitely has potential to improve.

I have deliberated over the rating for some time. The service was quite slow at times, which should result in a lower rating but the delay was so well handled that we can forgive the waiting.

We arrived at the restaurant at about 8pm on a Tuesday evening having driven from Moeraki and stopped many times on the Catlins route. When we arrived the restaurant was already very busy but we were told that if we could wait for 10-15 mins, they would get a table ready. We started with a drink in the bar and were given a table fairly quickly. Unfortunately, the service slowed from here.

Our meal and wine orders were taken and the wine arrived after a bit of a delay. We chose one entree ... The venison terrine (a cold dish) ... and that took an age. Fortunately, the portion was large and all three of us had some.

The mains seemed to take forever but, instead of just keeping their heads down and ignoring us, the staff kept coming and checking on us, apologising for the delay and explaining everything was cooked fresh and that they were very busy in the kitchen. The food did eventually turn up and was well worth waiting for. I've seen a couple of comments about small portions on other reviews. We struggled to finish ours ... both quality and quantity was excellent.

Given how busy they were when we arrived, it would have been easy for them to turn us away. I am glad that they didn't as we would have missed an excellent meal. Service may have been a bit slow to deliver but it was very good from a personal care perspective.

The menus are quite a novelty ... printed as the pages of a newspaper with the story of Buster Crabb.

Nice meal, but not a lot of it, probably would not go back. Service was nice, but they brought out the wrong meal

In town overnight and Buster Crabb had been recommended. Food was very quick to arrive, suited us well but imagine if you were wanting an evening entertainment it might be over quite quickly. Food is bistro fare, nothing fancy but seemed like good food. I had the fish and chips - tasty and fresh southern blue cod and a nice fresh side salad. Some quirky touches with the menu being disguised in a newssheet and old black and white movie showing. Had charge back facility to our hotel which was useful for business travellers.
