“Wonderful Motel in Invercargill”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2014

Like several other reviewers, I needed to stay overnight in Invercargill en route to Stewart Island. Arriving by bus, Yarrow Motel is only a 10 min. flat walk from the bus stop. In case of rain, the owners will pick you up. You couldn't find more helpful hosts than Karla and Peter or a more comfortable, large and clean unit. There isn't a lot to do in the town itself, but an excellent museum in a centrally situated lovely park as well as a couple of walks in the town itself with its many interesting heritage buildings, was more than enough to keep me occupied. Invercargill has many interesting heritage buildings. I've never seen so many traffic lights for so few people.
The hosts allow you to stay in the unit until the Stewart Island plane leaves mid day, also running you to the airport. Nothing negative and a lot of positives about YARROW !

We are back after 2 years and elected to stay at the same motel as last time. Same owners, ( Karla & Peter ) providing the same very high standard of customer care. It was great to see nothing had changed. If anything the service was even better than the last time. Love the central heating. This is our motel of choice when in Invercargill.

I was traveling from Stewart island and had to spend a night in Bluff or Invercargill. After booking, I found out that the ferry might not sail due to bad weather. I called the owners, who allowed me to cancel my reservation free of charge, even that it was quite late and I guess that they couldn't find anyone else.

Eventually, the ferry did sail, and when I called the motel, they gave me another room, even better, but with same price! What could be possibly better than that?

All of the time, they were nice, friendly and polite, fully understanding my situation and doing everything possible to help me.

The room itself was great. Large, modern, all included. Everything was clean and new. The cost was extremely low, comparing to similar motels.

I highly recommend everyone spending a night at this motel, surely you will not regret it.

During our road trip in New Zealand we made a stop in Invercargill. Cute, small town! We decided to stay at Yarrow Motel. It was really easy to find and we could park right outside the studio we were staying in. The staff was very friendly on our arrival and helped out to point out some destinations on our trip around Invercargill.
The studio was great! Lots of space, clean, fresh. The kitchen was separated from the studio, and was pretty big. Pots, pans, all you needed. The bed was comfortable and we had a really good night sleep. Wi-Fi was very limited but worked ok during our stay.
We walked to the city center, didnt take that much time. But most people seem to be traveling with their cars.

Whilst not an upmarket place, this was a very good motel to stop off on our travels. Very nice staff & comfortable & clean rooms.

Located a 10 minute walk from Invercargill shops & restaurants, so not too far out of the way.

Very peaceful & plenty of parking.

Room Tip: All rooms are good here!

This is second time in 7 months we have used this motel. I can not speak highly enough of the owners they are very friendly and nothing is a problem if it makes your stay better. The cleanliness inside and outside the units is of a very high standard. Again thank you for everything, we will be back.

Booked this room through lastminute.com. Cost around the $90 mark for one night.
Great location!
Walking distance or a short drive to the main street and the museum.
Staff were very helpful and provided us with maps, drink vouchers and free wifi. A morning paper was also offered.
The room contained a combined main bedroom/lounge with TV and heater. A separate kitchen was excellent with everything you could need, including a good variety of tea, coffee etc.
Bathroom was good with a nice hot shower and a separate heater which kept the room lovely and warm.
Owner gave us info on Burt Munro's "Worlds Fastest Indian" motorcycle display. The actual bike is housed in a hardware store nearby. Free to view. Other old bikes and cars are also on display in the store.
A replica of the bike is on display in the museum - also free to enter.
We were also given directions to Oreti Beach where Burt Munro used to test race his bike. You can drive directly onto the beach.
This motel's location is excellent and we loved the room - plenty of space for us and our luggage. Would definitely stay here again.
