Owner description: This is E. Hayes ans sons Hardware store also known as Hammer Hardware. It is where the famous Indian motorbike is kept. The display of old bikes and things from the past is well and truly worth seeing. The movie " The Fastest Indian" starred Anthony Hopkins.

“worth the stop”

I just love the fact that this regional icon is (very aptly) displayed in the local hardware store, and not in a museum.

Come to think of it, even the hardware store itself provides great insights into regional priorities and local life.

“The World's Fastest Indian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2012

Most people would assume that this motorcycle is in the Invercargill Museum but no, it's in the hardware store where Burt Munro worked. In fact, the whole of E Hayes (now a Hammer franchise) is a motorcycle museum with an extensive display of vintage machines going back as far as the 1920s. For a motorcycle buff and/or fan of the movie starring Anthony Hopkins it's brilliant. And in november the whole town is filled with motor cyclists taking part in the "Burt Munro Challenge".

“Excellent shop”

I like the variety of articles in this shop. Also the service with free gift wrapping. The Burt Munro motor bike is a great attraction for visitors to look at after seeing the movie.
