“Invercargill’s international fame”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

See the movie first to learn the story. The World’s Fastest Indian is located at the back of the E Hayes & Sons hardware store, which is a large hardware supplies store. A sign in the window will tell you that you are in the right place, and overhead signs in the store point you in the right direction. But there is more than the Indian to see – all throughout the store are old motorcycles, sitting in nice displays between the shelves. Plenty to see and all with information cards to add to the experience. Staff were obviously used to tourists passing through and I was not hassled at all whilst I looked around the store.
The story of Burt Munroe and the World’s Fastest Indian is an interesting one and it is certainly worth the time to see some of that history in Invercargill.

“Bikes galore”
Reviewed March 7, 2012

A must see, not only for the fascinating history of Burt Munro but also the other bikes and lovely old cars. We spent hours and there is so much more to see in E. Hayes and Son, what a brilliant shop!

“Invercargills MUST do”
Reviewed February 23, 2012

If you visit Invercargill you must take the time to have a look around Hayes Hardware where the original Fastest Indian resides along with what was left of Burt Munroes endeavors. The shop has a collection of cars and motorbike to keep you amused for hours and plenty for the wife to look at while she waits. Amazing and a credit to the family who own the store
