A warm welcome awaits you in this beautifully restored Victorian House that has been lovingly returned to its former glory by current owners Ray & Trish Yes it has been overtaken by Africa where the couple spent happy years but you get well looked after from the welcome cup of Tea or Coffee, the spacious and opulent bedrooms through to a soak in their hot tub with offers of a cold libation to ease those muscles!
A great full breakfast awaits you the following morning and mine hosts go to great lengths to offer suggestions for dining and also places to go and visit whilst in the area. Don’t think of it as a one night stay, Invercargill deserves 2 or 3 nights of any travellers’ time. Paul Carberry of New Zealand in Depth you got it right again!

We stayed here for one night only on our recent trip around the South Island. The drive along the coast from TeAnau was so interesting and scenic it took us 6 hours as we kept stopping to explore deserted beaches and photograph exquisite corners of the earth such as the aptly named Cosy Nook. The heritage trails in the area are well worth the diversion if you really want to get a feel for the history of the South. If you did not stop the drive is about 2.5 hours.
Arrived late afternoon and Trish greeted us with some biscuits and produced a lovely cup of tea. We chatted in the very comfortable living room adorned with African Art collected by Trish and Ray during their 6 years in Mozambique. As my family go to Africa every year we appreciated the artworks and enjoyed chatting about Southern Africa. Trish suggested we drive to a local beach for some shots of the sunset and this was a great suggestion. My son had a great time running bare foot on the beach in the freezing water. Despite Trish's great suggestions on where to eat out we decided to grab fish and chips, a bottle of wine and relax for the evening which was a great idea as my son enjoyed the billiard table while I enjoyed talking to Trish. We stayed in the rhino room where our hosts had put up a camp bed for our son and we still had plenty of room. The bed was grand and we all slept well before tucking into a most adequate breakfast cooked to the time of our request which was early as we had an action packed day to follow.
So may people had questioned why we would want to go to Invercargill stating it was cold, bleak, nothing to do there. This only made me more determined to go and I am so glad we did.

Room Tip: It says on the website the rhino and lion rooms are the larger rooms and after looking at all the rooms I would recommend these if you want a little more room but honestly all the rooms looked lovely

We recently stayed at Safari Lodge for 3 nights while my husband raced his car at Teratonga.
It is very conveniently situated for almost anything you want to do in the area and would make the perfect base for exploring the wonders of the area from one coast to the other plus it is well positioned for the journey to Stewart Island.
This is a lovely old home - restored from the ground up over many years by Trish and Ray. Each guest room is extremely comfortable and well equipped - everything you could possibly need and more. The garden is a picture and the locality is quiet yet central.
The very best part though has to be the helpfulness, knowledge and generosity of the owners . I had a major issue with a damaged tyre - on a Sunday (!!) - but with Ray's help and his contacts (he knows everyone in this town) we were sorted and on our way north with the minimum of delay. They are a truly amazing couple who make Safari Lodge the star of the South. Many, many thanks for a brilliant stay and returning my makeup mirror which I left behind.
Next time we come to stay the wine is on us!

Although we only stayed one night, Trish and Ray were wonderful hosts. The restoration of this home was done over the course of 20 years and it is wonderful to share such a labor of love. The home is a 3 story victorian which is decorated with many African artifacts which Trish and Ray brought back from their time traveling and working in Africa. We were the only visitors in early spring, but we got plenty of information for touring Invercargill and for the continuation of our trip. Upon our arrival, Trish offered us a platter of cheese and crackers with hot beverages and our breakfast was made to order. We had the use of a large and comfortable living room with a big screen TV and the use of a professional size billiards table which was quite challenging. Highly recommend the Safari Lodge with exceptional hosts.

Had a lovely one night stay on our way through Invercargil. This is a top-notch B&B- beautiful rooms and furnishings, comfy beds and good food. Trish and Ray were delightful and made us feel very much at home in theirs. If you prefer the stand-off hosts who make you feel as if you are interrupting their life by staying at their B&B, this is NOT the place for you. Can't recommend it enough!
