“Hidden Jewel”
Reviewed April 28, 2014 via mobile

Unusual and unassuming hotel cum service apartment in the heart of Dunedin. Every good joint top eat/drink and many attractions were walking distance. Biggest bonus... a washer and a dryer in the room with some stock of washing powder.

Its a busy place and they have limited parking space with could be the only sore point if you were unlucky not to get one. If you do love window shopping as a bonus over and above the normal touristy things to do.... this is best place you can find in Dunedin.

Thank you for taking time to provide us with feedback on your experience while staying with us in one of our 1-bedroom suites. We certainly are a busy wee motel, tucked down a busy alleyway. I was a little concerned that our guests, or future guests, might think we had limited parking. We do have enough parking for each of our units. Unfortunately we have to be on our toes to ensure that our parks are not being used by others who decide that our free inner city park spaces are too good miss. Hence we check each guests registration number on check-in, show them where our parks are (a map is also available) and check the carpark quite regularly for rogue cars!
Similarly, there are other parks that belong to other businesses that we steer our guests away from. There is nothing worse that waking up to find your car towed. But our parks are very well signposted and there are some more suited to large vehicle and others where a more compact vehicle might sit comfortably.

Main point - we do have enough parks for 1 vehicle per unit.

We stumbled upon this place when we met chris after a highlanders game. Stunning rooms, secure parking, walking distance to the octagon and roads of restaurants near by. I will certainly be staying here the next time I'm in Dunedin. Thanks for everything chris!

Thanks for your feedback Michael! As sports' fanatics, it didn't surprise me when Chris came back from a Highlanders' game with you in tow. It would be great to see you again if (or should I say WHEN) you are back in Dunedin.

Despite the hotel being up an alley our GPS took us to the right place and the small sign at the end was sufficient for us to know we were in the right place. Parking was tight but it was great to have free parking, an essential with a hire car.

The room was excellent, large and great facilities, we couldn't fault it. Actually, having said that the shower head sprayed everywhere but we wrote that on the customer comment card so I'm sure that's fixed by now :-)

The location was top class, a short walk from all the action. Staff really helpful and friendly. This was the first stop on our NZ trip and were chuffed with the complimentary milk which seems to be an NZ thing we discovered as we moved on. We predicted that this would be the best accomodation of our whole trip and it was, shame this wasn't our last stop instead!

Highly recommended.

This hotel was by far the best hotel we stayed in while visiting New Zealand. Our spacious Executive Studio Suite was furnished with a king bed and night stands, sofa, table & chairs. The well equipped kitchenette had a microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle, dishes & cutlery. We found the room to be quiet, comfortable, very modern and immaculately clean. The bathroom included the usual amenities--shampoo, conditioner, etc., but was also appointed with heated flooring (welcome in the cool weather) and heated mirror (no shower fog). Two robes in the closet were also a nice surprise.

Other features included multiple-channel TV, strong wif-fi (free), balcony, and complimentary off-street car parking. There is also a terrace area to relax with friends.

As if the fantastic rooms and friendly staff were not enough, this hotel is superbly located in the center of town. Restaurants and shops are virtually at the hotel's doorstep. The in-town location is close to the Octagon, I-Site Visitor Center, train station, etc. I could not recommend this hotel more highly and I would go back in an instant if I am lucky enough to return to this beautiful area.

Room Tip: All rooms are good. There is a roomy lift to all floors (3), so no worries with stairs.

Although a bit challenging to find due to its hidden location off an alley, this motel is very well-located in the main hub of George Street shops and restaurants. Off-street parking is provided, but the parking lot is a bit tight. Although located off this busy street, the rooms are extremely quiet. The Railway Station and the Otago Museum are within easy walking distance. Rooms are large, modern and well-equipped, although the bathroom is a bit small. Beds were being replaced, and the new one was quite comfortable.

The entry to this accommodation is not inspiring, but the hotel is a great place to stay and has good parking provision. The room we had was huge and well equipped including enough kitchen equipment to prepare a simple meal. It was tastefully decorated and very clean and had a huge, comfortable bed. It's surprisingly quiet and yet right in the heart of the city. The owners are fully engaged in running the place and their attention shows in the high quality of the overall experience. We would happily stay there again, in spite of the view being mainly over a car park.

Just as you can't always judge a book by its cover, judging 315 Euro Motel from entrance of the alleyway on George Street Street is just as difficult. With city council bylaws making signage and advertising near impossible we are finding ways to try and overcome this. As you have rightfully pointed out, we are not very inspiring from the Street!
To that end, our our next project is a large piece of alleyway street art depicting a street scene of historic Dunedin buildings, we are hoping to add a little something extra to the entrance way.

We are pleased that once you arrived at our location, you enjoyed your stay and that we could meet your accommodation needs. Hopefully we will see you back at 315 Euro at some time in the future.

The rooms are clean and adequately furnished, but the location leaves a lot to be desired - the rooms are down a seedy alleyway and the views are of the carpark at the end. I am surprised so many reviews are so good. I am sure there are more picturesque places to stay. Also, beware of the noise coming from late-night revellers on the street at the end of the alleyway.

Unfortunately views are not something that our inner-city location has the advantage of possessing, and as this guest has quite rightly pointed out, we do open out onto a carpark. This has the advantage of enabling all our guests to have free off-street park. with parking at a premium in the city and rather expensive, this is a plus. If its views that you want, then inner-city or North End Dunedin really is not the place to be!

But if you want vibrancy, night-life, shopping, theatre, restaurants and a fabulous location close to the university, hospital and CBD, then we are perfect. 4 star plus quality accommodation, tucked down an alleyway - off the street but still right in the heart of it all. And this guest will be pleased to hear that the alleyway is the focus of our next 315 Euro project. We have our resident artist (she is on staff!) putting together a rather large piece of street art that will brighten up the alleyway, giving the walls life as an entrance to our business. What is envisaged is a street scene of historic Dunedin buildings. It is still in the planning phase, but we are quite excited.
