Tony picked us up at the cruise port and gave us a scenic tour of the peninsula and to the Albatross breeding grounds, where we saw many royal albatross soaring and others nesting. He then took us to some private land with both an overlook to a fur seal colony and a beach with both fur seals and sea lions. Along the way, he showed and described to us many kinds of birds and flora. We had a delicious (included) picnic lunch while he drove and pointed out details of the incredible scenery. Tony is incredibly knowledgeable about the history and current state of the local environment and is clearly passionate about preserving it. He was a wonderful and considerate tour guide, using some extra time at the end of the day to give us a brief tour of the city of Dunedin.
You have a choice of what to include in the trip and we chose the albatross centre rather than the boat trip. We learnt so much about albatrosses and could see them nesting and flying!
Then we went around the estuary where our guide (Sean) pointed out different birds, telling us interesting facts about each. We then went on to some private farms where we saw fur seals, sea lions, more albatrosses flying and yellow eyed penguins. Again our guide was so informative and went that extra mile to show us penguin and seal behaviour.
It was a really interesting and enjoyable trip!
Our guide Warren was knowledgeable about every aspect of the areas and wildlife that we encountered.
We had heard from the locals that this company was the best...ànd they didn't steer us wrong. Great day and good fun.
Perfectly organized tour, from the pick-up to the return, knowledgeable and patient guide, all expectations were met. Will go again with them if in Dunedin.
Being able to get up close to some of the rarest most endangered native species and doing so in a respectful manner is what Elm is about. Half a day of learning about the Otago Peninsula natural history and gaining a perspective on the consequences we have on the environment. Albatross, New Zealand sea lions, Yellow Eye penguins, it was simply exceptional.
We read about this tour and decided to go with this because it’s only for a small group of people and in a private farm.
Donna our guide was full of energy and enthusiasm.
We could see seals, sea lions, and yellow eyed penguins undisturbed in their own environment
Totally recommended!
