The day we have spent with Elm folks was wonderful and full of impressions. Organization was perfect, we were picked up in front of our hotel and returned back in the evening. In fact it was a busy day for Elm as we have noticed at least 2 more groups guided by Elm around. Our group was looking like a smallest one (around 8 people in total) and was guided by John. These people are real enthusiasts and after spending few hours we truly believe that they really love what they do. All the stories were very interesting and we have no questions left unanswered. On top of that a very good sense of Humor. Perfect day in Dunedin. Highly recommended. Thank you Elm & thank you John!

A super day out. It was a little drive out the way but what do you expect for seeing wildlife like this. We went on 16th March and it was well worth the money. Tony and Sean were great and gave us all the information we needed. I feel bad for them when i see negative reviews. They do their best and at the end of the day it up to the animals what they wish to do.

keep it up.

“not worth the cost!”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Yes, Elms picked us up at cruise ship, right on time, and returned us in sufficient time. But, the long, long drive, almost 5+ hours of the 8-hour day was really too, too tedious and long. If you are prone to car sickness, this may not be the tour for you. First stop was Albatross sighting area. No Albatrosses to be seen. The group had to wait for one hour while 2 of the group looked at Albatross nests (they had paid higher fee for this priviledge!). Then long drive to see sea lions, fur seals, and a few penquins. The beach was beautiful and the weather was
perfect, but frankly, for $142 each, we were sorry we went. Guide and bus driver very helpful when we got to the beach area, otherwise, they really didn't point out any of the sights or tell us much about Dunedin. Sandwich and apple provided for lunch.

We regret your negative feelings about your experience with us. Viewing wildlife can be very difficult at times and we do try to make the experience as enjoyable as possible, unfortunately because of the time constraints of the ship shore time and the behavioural patterns of the wildlife it can mean that sometimes the viewing is more difficult than at other times of the day or year. We also wish to inform our readers that we do not spend 5 hours solid driving, total driving time is less than four hours in short segments 45min to 1.5 hours with comfort stops and wildlife viewing in between.

“Enthusiastic folks”
Reviewed March 16, 2013 via mobile

A fab afternoon/evening that enabled us to see loads of wildlife and be driven around the stunning Otago peninsular. We took the Max tour that included the boat tour, the albatross centre tour and the visit to the private beach/sanctuary area. The staff are clearly dedicated passionate folks who really care about these animals. They were informative and friendly, answering questions, making us feel relaxed and shepherding us to the animals without rushing us or being too controlling. Hearing about the likely demise of the penguins and the seal lions was a tad depressing but at least something is being done at this local level.
The tour, as their website explains, does include walking up and down two hills, but you can take your time and it's OK but if you struggle walking uphill bear this in mind. They offer a choice of tours so can suit any budget. Highly recommended.

“Wildlife and Beach tour”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Bus with 14 of us. The tour met the criteria on their website, but was a little disappointing due to our expectations of seeing more wildlife. Lunch was included. We did visit their private beach and could see a few yellow-eyed penguins, fur seals and a sea lion or two. We did see a few Albatross around the wildlife center. The hike down to the beach itself is a bit steep, be prepared. Jane and John did a great job conducting the tour.
