School holidays and managed to get a great rate over the weekend at this hotel. The rate was per room which made a pleasant change not to be charged extra for children and slept a family of four comfortably. Our room was on the sixth floor and very quiet for the central city location. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Travelling with small children it was also great to have a guest laundry where you could do your own washing. The breakfast offered in the restaurant was good value. The central city location was brilliant, within easy walking distance of many of Dunedin's attractions. Will definitely be back. Loved our stay.

We brought 2 nights accommodation on wotif.com. We were doing a 2 week trip around the south island. The room was lovely and large. Even though our room was on the main street side we could not hear any traffic noise. The bed was the comfiest we had slept in over all the accommodation we stayed in over the two weeks. Nice big TV with sky. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The room was immaculately clean! Very impressed. Will definitely stay again and look at other scenic hotels in the future!

This is a great hotel located in the heart of Dunedin CBD. I have stayed here before and would do so again. The rooms are very spacious and well appointed. It is great to see hotel rooms with great desk space with plenty of electrical outlets. The rooms are huge and very comfortable beds. My only criticism of this hotel are the bathrooms. They are very basic. If the bathrooms were better, this could easily be a five star hotel. I liked the $12 per night valet parking and very affordable and sat WiFi

Dear Bredon B,

Thanks so much for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us - and we were very happy to read that you have stayed with us before and chosen to return again. Thanks for your numerous great comments, and it was heartening to read that you made mention of the numerous electrical outlets available in each room - as part of installing the new large 42" flat screen TV's, we also installed Epic Organisers (aka media hubs) underneath the TV's with various sockets for computers etc + extra electrical sockets. It was also great to read that you liked the $12 per night valet carparking service and affordable wifi ($10 per 24 hours or $5 per 24 hours for a smartphone). We are sorry that you found the bathrooms a little basic. Thanks again and we look forward to hosting you for another stay sometime in the future.

Kind regards.

My wife and I spent one night at the Scenic Hotel.

On our arrival we found the reception staff friendly and helpful.

We were in a standard king room on the 3rd floor. The room was large, clean and comfy. There was a kitchenette area, which we found useful and a small work desk. The bed was very comfy with a good selection of pillows.

The bathroom was spacious and clean. There was a stand alone shower with a good size vanity area next to it.

There is a small gym on the 1st floor with a modest amount of cardio machines, free weights and machine weights. There is also a guest laundry on the 5th floor.

Self parking and valet parking are the same price at $12.00. The valet staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is great. The CBD is only a 5min walk from the hotel where you'll find a good selection of restaurants and cafes.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Scenic Hotel and would happily stay here again.

so it all starts with the check in, multiple fumbling about, poorly greeted, no assistance whatsoever with luggage, 'where can u park the car' - answer, lol on the street.! and it was downhill from here, arriving to the room, there is massive jackhammering going on, after a six hour drive, all we need to do is rest, but not at this hotel, when questioning the front desk, they advise that the noise will stop at 5pm, what time will it start again tomorrow i asked, 730 was the response, when queried, 'dont u think that is unreasonable,' all i got was a shrug, when talking to the manager, he was somewhat apologetic, giving us a dinner i. the restaurant, that was interesting too, disorganized, the girl in the restaurant, has a name tag saying supervisor, but then when we asked something she said tht she is still learning, 'so why does your name tag say supervisor' a valid question i thought, lol, to be told, 'i have been here a week' and now you are the supervisor i said, lol, she didn't even know what day it was let alone be a supervisor, then there was breakfast, everything was of exceptionally poor quality, hash browns soggy, bacon, literally strips of fat, try to get some water for a tea, and only to find the container with water, had been used last time for coffee, so the water stunk to high heavens, asked for some water, and the waitress goes to get some in another container that also previously held coffee, when i explained her the ins and outs of how to serve water, she said its ok, so i said can we test it first in a blank cup, you guessed it mucky water came out and one highly embarrassed waitress. room housekeeping, we leave the room at 9am, put the sign on for cleaning, get back at 2.30pm, nothing, thinking about the pathetic level of the hotel i had to call someone to see if they did in fact do daily housekeeping, to be told that yes they do, we just forgot the eighth floor today, hahahaha, this is all true, i could go on, but yes this hotel is really a laugh a minute, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Dear TravelbradBrisbane,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us. Whilst there were some mishaps during your stay, which we sincerely apologise for, it was disappointing to read the way you have written this review - which in my opinion is somewhat misleading and many points have been "twisted' and some are even inaccurate - I know this as I personally phoned your cellphone 5 minutes after your request to a staff member for me to do so, and also you phoned me in my office on a subsequent ph call, and the answers I gave to your questions have not been told accurately by yourself in this reveiw. So I would just like to set a few facts straight for readers: Firstly regarding your carparking question - what you actually asked the front desk staff member was "so if we don't use your valet carparking service, what other options do we have?" - the staff member replied "on the street" - I am not sure what is wrong with that answer? - if you choose to not use our valet carparking service which we offer (at $12 per day), there is no other choice apart from parking on the street as we are an inner city hotel? Yes there was drilling noise happening on the day you arrived - during normal business hours - when you complained I apologised and offered you and the other occupant of your room free evening dinner and also free full cooked breakfast the following morning as compensation (you only mention in this review that I offered dinner) - you accepted my offer. In regards to the start time of the workmen the following day, yes the staff member told you 7.30am - however when you rung me I let you know that the workmen were onsite getting their gear ready at 7.30am, and no loud noise would start until 8.30am - you said that 9.00am "would be more civilised" - so I said OK no problems, and immediately went and talked to the workmen and consequently no loud noise commenced until 9.00am the following day - you have not portrayed this factually correct answer fairly in your review. You say that you returned at 2.30pm to find your room had not been serviced and that you called "someone" and was told that the 8th floor had been forgotten that day - this is a really unreasonable comment to make - firstly the "someone" you called was me, it was 1.55pm not 2.30pm, and I let you know that there had been a busy checkout and that the housekeeping team was literally on their way to your room - which they were. At no stage did myself or anyone else say that the 8th floor had been "forgotten" to be serviced as you write here - very unfair of you to write this.

Regards

Greg

Had a second floor room close to the lift, the noise from the elevator going up & down all night was annoying and we never really experienced any friendly service but other than that the room was a good size with modern decor, comfortable bed & its in a great location close to plenty of restaurants.

I have stayed in the Scenic Hotel Dunedin City many times and I am always happy to go back. The service is consistently courteous and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are always very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. And, most importantly, the rooms are nice and quiet. The restaurant has a very good menu which is well augmented with a good range of quality wines. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Octagon and inner city attractions.
