“This is a real Faulty Towers Hotel if ever i have seen one”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2013 via mobile

so it all starts with the check in, multiple fumbling about, poorly greeted, no assistance whatsoever with luggage, 'where can u park the car' - answer, lol on the street.! and it was downhill from here, arriving to the room, there is massive jackhammering going on, after a six hour drive, all we need to do is rest, but not at this hotel, when questioning the front desk, they advise that the noise will stop at 5pm, what time will it start again tomorrow i asked, 730 was the response, when queried, 'dont u think that is unreasonable,' all i got was a shrug, when talking to the manager, he was somewhat apologetic, giving us a dinner i. the restaurant, that was interesting too, disorganized, the girl in the restaurant, has a name tag saying supervisor, but then when we asked something she said tht she is still learning, 'so why does your name tag say supervisor' a valid question i thought, lol, to be told, 'i have been here a week' and now you are the supervisor i said, lol, she didn't even know what day it was let alone be a supervisor, then there was breakfast, everything was of exceptionally poor quality, hash browns soggy, bacon, literally strips of fat, try to get some water for a tea, and only to find the container with water, had been used last time for coffee, so the water stunk to high heavens, asked for some water, and the waitress goes to get some in another container that also previously held coffee, when i explained her the ins and outs of how to serve water, she said its ok, so i said can we test it first in a blank cup, you guessed it mucky water came out and one highly embarrassed waitress. room housekeeping, we leave the room at 9am, put the sign on for cleaning, get back at 2.30pm, nothing, thinking about the pathetic level of the hotel i had to call someone to see if they did in fact do daily housekeeping, to be told that yes they do, we just forgot the eighth floor today, hahahaha, this is all true, i could go on, but yes this hotel is really a laugh a minute, do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Dear TravelbradBrisbane,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your recent stay with us. Whilst there were some mishaps during your stay, which we sincerely apologise for, it was disappointing to read the way you have written this review - which in my opinion is somewhat misleading and many points have been "twisted' and some are even inaccurate - I know this as I personally phoned your cellphone 5 minutes after your request to a staff member for me to do so, and also you phoned me in my office on a subsequent ph call, and the answers I gave to your questions have not been told accurately by yourself in this reveiw. So I would just like to set a few facts straight for readers: Firstly regarding your carparking question - what you actually asked the front desk staff member was "so if we don't use your valet carparking service, what other options do we have?" - the staff member replied "on the street" - I am not sure what is wrong with that answer? - if you choose to not use our valet carparking service which we offer (at $12 per day), there is no other choice apart from parking on the street as we are an inner city hotel? Yes there was drilling noise happening on the day you arrived - during normal business hours - when you complained I apologised and offered you and the other occupant of your room free evening dinner and also free full cooked breakfast the following morning as compensation (you only mention in this review that I offered dinner) - you accepted my offer. In regards to the start time of the workmen the following day, yes the staff member told you 7.30am - however when you rung me I let you know that the workmen were onsite getting their gear ready at 7.30am, and no loud noise would start until 8.30am - you said that 9.00am "would be more civilised" - so I said OK no problems, and immediately went and talked to the workmen and consequently no loud noise commenced until 9.00am the following day - you have not portrayed this factually correct answer fairly in your review. You say that you returned at 2.30pm to find your room had not been serviced and that you called "someone" and was told that the 8th floor had been forgotten that day - this is a really unreasonable comment to make - firstly the "someone" you called was me, it was 1.55pm not 2.30pm, and I let you know that there had been a busy checkout and that the housekeeping team was literally on their way to your room - which they were. At no stage did myself or anyone else say that the 8th floor had been "forgotten" to be serviced as you write here - very unfair of you to write this.

Regards

Greg

Had a second floor room close to the lift, the noise from the elevator going up & down all night was annoying and we never really experienced any friendly service but other than that the room was a good size with modern decor, comfortable bed & its in a great location close to plenty of restaurants.

I have stayed in the Scenic Hotel Dunedin City many times and I am always happy to go back. The service is consistently courteous and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are always very clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. And, most importantly, the rooms are nice and quiet. The restaurant has a very good menu which is well augmented with a good range of quality wines. The hotel is conveniently located close to the Octagon and inner city attractions.

This hotel was fantastic. The rooms were brand new. Very spacious and immaculate. The bed was so nice that I wish i had it at home. We were on one of the upper levels and there was barely no traffic noise from the street with the windows open. There was a large bowl with fruit in reception and customers could help themselves :)

One disappointment was that the wifi was not free. This is not good when you consider the price we payed to stay here. Also be warned that the carpark was not free. We were lucky that the parking inspectors were on holidays over the new years break so we got to park on the street during our stay.

The location is right on the main street and walking distance from the 'octagon'(the city center). There was lots of places to eat or go out for a drink. The speights brewery is a 5 minute walk which is good considering they let you drink all you can in 30 minutes. The cadbury factory is also very close, and the tour departs from the info desk a few minutes up the road.

Helpful staff at the checkin desk, a very comfortable room on the 5th floor, and an excellent dinner with attentive staff. There was no problem about leaving luggage and our car there past the checkout time. All in all, very good, and we'd be happy to stay there again.

Good location and well appointed room for what was a reasonable price through LateRooms.com. Handy to city and ideal for what I wanted. Frustrating that I have to leave a message on here that is a minimum of 200 characters - I don't have that much to say!!!

The Scenic Hotel is just a 5 minute walk to the city centre - The Octagon. It is not far from the iconic Dunedin Railway Station and the Cadbury Chocolate factory. It is also easy access to a host of eating places around the Octagon and nearby streets.
Check-in was a breeze from the friendly staff. But not too happy about being charged extra NZD$12.00 a day for parking. There is parking under the hotel but our car was parked in another location close by.
The rooms are large but because we had a room facing Princes Street it got a bit hot from the afternoon sun shining straight into the room through the large windows. There does not seem to be air conditioning in the room, only heating. Nevertheless as the evenings were a bit cold the afternoon sun did warm up the room for us.
No complimentary wi fi n the hotel. But it is free if you wander into the Octagon - the centre of the CBD.

Room Tip: Don't get a room close to the lifts (room numbers that end with 01) if you are a light sleeper a...

Dear melach,

Thanks very much for your review regarding your recent stay with us. Thanks also for your poitive comments regarding our great location, easy checkin and friendly staff. I was sorry to read that you were not happy about the $12 per day carparking fee - valet carparking is a service we offer, and as such we need to lease a number of carparks around us as not enough carparks in our basement to offer all guests carparking onsite - so the lease cost is re-charged on to guests who wish to use this service, rather than them having to find a park in inner city etc. Thanks again and we hope to be able to host you again sometime.

Kind regards

Greg.
