The hotel has excellent location on Princess street which runs to the Octagon, city center. The room is spacious and clean. The reception is very helpful. They have valet parking which is very convenient.Wifi free for 30 minutes in the reception area only.I had breakfast which is fair, they are understaffed.I got a good price on book.com,I heard that other are paying double my price. The bed has soft spring,it not heavenly bed like Starwood hotels or other the same rating in U.S.The bathtub is difficult to get into if you are clumsy little old lady because the rim is high and there is nowhare to hold on!
I will stay here again if I receive a good price as a base to explore the city of Dunedin and surrounding peninsula.

Room Tip: Get a discount on line booking or you will be paying too much. The hotel in not 4 and a half stars as...

First impression are always important and unfortunately, the Scenic dunedin city didnt make a good one on us. We stayed for a weekend and on checkin were met by quite a rude...well, not quite rude but certainly unwelcoming and disinterested, front desk staff member. Our room wasnt ready, which is not a terrible thing itself, but he offered no apology and was very matter of fact about it...Bad first impression.

Location was good. Room service nothing special. Lobby was quite dated and seemed a little like an office building rather than a hotel. We found quite a few womens hairs in the room...bathroom and on the beds. Bit gross.

I think next time we will find a different hotel...maybe try the other scenic in dunedin.

Stayed in this hotel during the World Cup. To be honest, booking with Expedia showed this to be the only hotel with vacancies, so no element of choice in the selection! The hotel was OK; certainly nothing fancy but functional, clean and spacious enough. We used it as a base - there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby and it's a very short walk into the centre of town. The hotel doubled the price for our second night but, given that demand was even higher because it was the day of the game, that's probably fair enough.

Apart from welcoming staff I can think of very little to recommend about this hotel. Functional best describes it. We were there during the rugby world cup and they tried to maximise their price take then but the offering never matched that. This hotel has a tired look about it that smacks of underinvestment and lack of interest by the owners in the offering to their customers. That said, the staff try their best with what they have to hand. We will not be back.

Reserved two adjoining rooms, one with king, the other two queen beds. Stayed in room to back of building away from street which was very quiet. Spotlessly clean, crisp bedding, nice pillows. Well stocked frig to include carton of milk for coffee/tea. Very nice toiletries. No tub, standup shower only but great water pressure and shower head. Nice towels. Just a short few blocks walk to Octagon plaza. Fee for wifi. A bit expensive during rugby play offs

Room Tip: Go for back away from street, no view but quiet

First off there are two Scenics in Dunedin: this one and the other one called the Southern Cross which is two blocks away. This is a no frills hotel, valet for your car at $12/day, small, expensive restaurant (we never dined there so no review on that part), large room, with a small, portable TV, limited channels, no climate control unless you open the window, and the room lighting is dim. We were on the 3rd floor, street side so you could hear the street noise, but I like that and slept well. If the symphony of the street keeps you awake this would be a problem for you. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean; housekeeping was excellent. Internet was $30 for 24 hours & 30 minutes/day free near the lobby. The upside is the location: two blocks from the Octagon with tons of pubs & restaurants a short walk away (the Black Dog Cafe is right next door: great, inexpensive breakfast and great coffee). We hardly spent any time in the room so the few missing amenities were not a problem and we would stay here again.

Room Tip: High floor to avoid street noise
