3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

We didn't book ahead and tried at least six other hotels before we found vacancy here. $99 seems cheap compared to the prices they're charging every where else. They offer free parking and Internet which was a first for us in New Zealand. The room (311) was clean but the bed a little small and crooked so my husband and I slid into the middle of the mattress. I slept on the twin bed the second night which wasn't a big deal. Lots of TV stations.

After a rather dissapointing first stay hubby decided he wanted to see what I had told him about..so we booked into a back room 302... When we arrived the friday night it was really nice to see some very good musicians jamming in the bar ,,a lovely atmosphere.. Up to our room which was ok had all you needed...Then down to the bar which I would have to say was a delight...This place isn't perfect but I believe they are trying.
We had breakfast the next morning which was great but it doesn't start till 8.30 for cooked.
Overall this place has character that could be built on Again I will say until double glazing is done I would stick to back rooms

Room Tip: Rooms facing carpark are best

The Law Courts Hotel in Dunedin is right in the center of the city & a great place to make your base while exploring the many attractions the area has to offer. Adjacent to the famous railway station & the starting point for the Taieri Gorge Railway trip ( a MUST trip). Also 1 minute from the Cadbury Chocolate Factory tour (yum) & 5 minutes from the Speights Brewery tour (a must!). The accomodation is very nice & cosy ( the Queen stayed here ) & must be the best value of any hotel in NZ. Excellent meals available in the restaurant & the bar has a great selection of beer, spirits & wines & a friendly service. Perfect for the family, couples, or solo travelers. I have stayed here a number of times & I highly recommend this establishment. Enjoy.

Room Tip: They are all good rooms.

I love old pubs like this.

If you're after the latest beds, double glazing, spacious bathrooms, massive TVs, etc then this place ain't for you.

But having said all that, it does have what you need. A clean room, comfortable bed, an ensuite bathroom, great views (from my room anyway), friendly staff and a restaurant and bar downstairs.

Free parking was included too.

Pub style accommodation in the centre of town providing great value.

After a long drive in need of a stop over we stopped at THE LAW COURTS unaware that if you are staying here you need an internal room so that you don't suffer from the noise..
We were on the 3rd floor all night the pedestrian crossing beeped ,cars roared past and people seem to shout in the streets.
We enjoyed a meal and a drink in the bar...yes its old and has history which I like but the paint falling from the roof on my daughter was just a tad bit too much..When told to staff in morning I might have expected a discount for the interupted paint scare night and no light in toilet etc but nooooooo so !

Room Tip: ASK for internal room at back!!!!! don't stay if you want a good nights sleep.

We were late into town, and did not see one hotel or motel when driving from the south.

we chose this somewhat reluctantly, but our choice was limited. Night receptionist was pleasant and helpful.

Room was clean, and good hot water. No fridge or other facilities. bed was small but adequate

breakfast staff were non existent, so went elsewhere.

Not our first choice by any means, but it does not pretend to be other than an old fashioned "country" pub (although HRH Queen Elizabath and Prince Phillip apparently stayed there in 1954......I am sure it was more modern then !!)

Room Tip: Ask for QE2's suite !!
