Owner description: The Otago Peninsula is a long, hilly indented finger of land that forms the easternmost part of Dunedin, New Zealand. Volcanic in origin, it forms one wall of the eroded valley that now forms Otago Harbour. The peninsula lies south-east of Otago Harbour and runs parallel to the mainland for 20 km, with a maximum width of 9 km. It is joined to the mainland at the south-west end by a narrow isthmus about 1.5 km wide.

Love this place, and can't wait to come back! The scenery is lovely, a mix of bay scenery reminiscent of Northern California's Tomales Bay area, wonderful hills, and sections that reminded me of Ireland.

Short and sweet title that sums up our peninsular. (And you are correct: it is amazing!)

The drive was beautiful ... which is what opens almost any review in New Zealand. We toured the Larnach Castle which was charming inside and out. We drove to the end of the peninsual taking the high road going out and the coast road coming home. Ate at a little cafe in Portobellow which was quite nice. We did not pay to be admitted to Penguin Place, Natures Wonders or the Royal Albatross Centre. I have come to be very cynical about attractions such as these.

Views Views and then some views. Beautiful. Just walk until you can't walk no more. The scenery is first class. The drive impressive, don't expect a fast pace

The drive around the peninsula from Dunedin is great. The road is right on the water and there are some terrific views of the area. The wildlife is great and the people are nice, but stay away from the Portobello Hotel restaurant that some people in that area suggest because the food is terrible.

I spent about 4 hours driving around Otago Peninsula. It was a pleasant trip if you take your own sweet time to drive around and stop at interesting places to take photos.

If you are rushing for time, this place is not recommended as you will not enjoy the nice scenery. I did not go into those attraction places along the Otago Peninsula ride though as most of the places require entrance fee and might need additional 2-3 hours here.
