“Excellent Accommodation and Service at Lisburn House”
Reviewed January 21, 2011

My wife and I have just had the pleasure of staying at Lisburn House in Dunedin with Olivia our wonderful hostess. We were booked to stay at Hilltop B&B, but due to the sale of that premises, we were referred to Lisburn House. The tariff was significantly higher at Lisburn House, but they kindly accepted our booking for two nights at the lower rate as asked by Hilltop.
Our accommodation was of the highest standard, clean, excellent food and our hostess could not have been more friendly and went out of her way to ensure our stay was as enjoyable as possible in every way. My wife and I would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Dunedin.

Hi,

This B&B may be the loveliest place in New Zealand, but I'm afraid that my fiancee and I will never find out. We had confirmed bookings at Lisburn House for over a month and a half but, when the owners discovered there was a Rugby World Cup match on the weekend of our booking, they decided that they would cancel our stay because they could get more money elsewhere. Apparently they were happy to reinstate our booking if we agreed to pay double the price of when we originally booked.

This is not the way anyone should do business and I would strongly advise anyone thinking about staying here that their booking is not worth the paper it's printed on - if there's an opportunity that someone else might pay more, you'll be out on your ear faster than you can imagine.

These people have put a downer on our honeymoon, 10 months before it even happens.

Stay away - your holiday is not worth the risk.

We have had many romantic evenings at Lisburn House over the past few years, it is now our very special place, Alan and Olivia feel like family, and make us feel so very welcome. There is no where else you could enjoy such old world splendour, such unbelievable food and Alan and Olivias warm hospitality. You want to give your marriage a wee boost? this is your place

This is an absolutely perfect place. Alan and Olivia are lovely, delightful hosts. We were greeted with tea and wonderful chocloate biscuits when we arrived. My husband was having back pain, and Olivia provided much sympathy and hot water bottle and heating pad that had him walking the next day. She also added an extra night to our stay so my husband could rest. What wonderful hospitality.

We enjoyed an exquisite dinner in their beautiful dining room on Saturday night. The food was without a doubt the best we had during our New Zealand/Australia trip and rivaled any meal we have had in New York or Los Angeles. Breakfast was also great and we enjoyed visiting with the other guests, two friendly couples from Australia.

The house and rooms are beautifully decorated with Victorian furnishings...every comfort and amenity is provided.

We highly recommend Lisburn House.

Stayed for two nights in mid-summer. The property is a lttle out of town (approx 10 mins by car), which might not suit everybody, but I would recommend giving this place a try. The house has only three bedrooms, one with it's own bathroom, and the other two with seperate bathrooms acroos the landing (a walk of about five paces from each bedroom.

The bedrooms are well furnished, and very comfortable with everything you may need provided. There are two lounges downstairs, a breakfast room and dining room all furnished to match the historical background of the house.

The hosts (Allen and Olivia) are very accommodating, with ample breakfasts (allen will cook you almost anything), and a superb in-house dinner menu.

There is a phrase that the difference between a B&B and a hotel is that when you leave a hotel, you don't want to give the staff a hug... it's certainly true for the hosts at Lisburn House

We often stay in Lisburn House because hosts Olivia and Alan always make it such a very special occasion. Romantic four poster beds, beautiful Victorian furnishings, warm and intimate... What more could you want? Expert, friendly service and excellent fine dining is the icing on a very lovely cake!!! And now they've introduced a 3 course meal to compliment their full a la carte menu. And what amazing value it is! We often recommend Lisburn House to our friends and business associates and they always love it. With its three stunning bedrooms and a dining room seating about 30 people, it's also the ideal venue for small weddings and functions too. This is up there with the very best...
