We travelled with 3 families to Dunedin and stayed at the Castle. We couldn't have been more pleased. The accommodation was very cosy, shared bathroom but that was not a problem as many showers and toilets and all very clean. We ate lunch at the cafe which was lovely and the breakfast was super.

I believe the castle has the best view of Otago Harbour from the top of the mountain...beautiful and peaceful place for relaxation :)

My wife and I stayed at Larnach Castle in October 2009, in one of the Lodge Balcony rooms. These are themed rooms, and we enjoyed our stay. The tour of the castle is amazing and included in the price of the accommodation, as is breakfast. We stayed in the "Kate" Room but there are several others to choose from. If you have a sense of humour ask to stay in the "Stage coach" room - we met up with several other travellers who dined in the castle for the evening and after several drinks we thought they were telling tall tales but we all headed off to the room and low and behold theres a stage coach as a bed. What a hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have the opportunity to book in for dinner at the Castle do so - its a terrific night where only the other resident travellers staying at the castle can attend. A beautiful 3 course meal and fabulous way to meet other travellers. My husband and I had a ball and we exchanged lots of different ideas of what to see and where to stay during our visit to the South Island. A terrific night.

The rooms here are nothing to write home about and probably ready for an update but the location is stunning. Views across the water and the gardens and castle are exciting to visit.Worth a once in a lifetime visit perhaps. WiFi in rooms would be a big plus as guest computer is inadequate. Breakfast was ordinary and mostly 'bought in' packets.

We enjoyed our stay but were blown away by the views from our room and the spectacular gardens. The room was adequate if a little tired and the breakfast was nothing special - lots of sachets of plastic jam and margarine. Staff were all friendly and helpful.
