We had not be back to this museum since it was up grades. What a wonderful job they did. This is a very interactive museum both my 3 year old and 8 year old sons loved it. Hope to look at and very hands on.

“An interactive and interesting afternoon, for free!”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

This museum was a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. There are many interactive displays; you can zoom in on old photos to amazing levels of detail on a giant screen, you can search through a database of settlers and find their photos, you can even select stories which interest you about individual local people and events and read more about which ever ones appeal to you. I loved the room full of pictures of settlers and the recreation of the ship below deck.

“A wonderful peek into a time gone by”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Let me start by saying that I like tours of old houses. I especially liked this house and tour. The house and all its contents were donated to the City of Otago by the last member of the family upon her death. It gives a great sense of life in Dunedin at the turn of the 20th century for people who were clearly well off. The house and gardens are in very good condition. The tour leader was knowledgeable and enthusiastic. This was worth the time for those visiting Dunedin for a brief visit.

Superb museum full of interesting things and all well displayed. If you have ancestors from Dunedin you can research them on line on a great database of Otago early settlers kept at the museum (but you can't access this database from elsewhere).
