“Quiet locality with great beaches and historic headland”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

Not far north of Dunedin, a great place to unwind with well tracked headland important to NgaiTahu and fabulous atmospheric beach that is never crowded. Local store for the "after beach" icecream

“Great coastal location”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

A small community of both holiday homes and permanent homes clustered around the estuary and coastline, and only a few kms off the main highway. You can spend times on the beach, walk the Huriawa Peninsula walkway, peruse nearby second hand shops, take the coastal road further south to Waitati, visi Orakanui Eco-sanctuary and see native birds feeding in the bush... a lovely spot.

“Paradise!”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

Karitane is so picture perfect. It's my weekend place - only half an hour out of Dunedin. Great for walks, cycling, fishing, surfing and tranquility. Take plenty of basic supplies and you are all set for a healthy weekend in the great NZ outdoors. There is no cafe or restaurant but the fish and chip shop in Waikouaiti is first class if you need an easy dinner.

This beach is beautiful even on a mid-winter's day, and we would love to come back in the summer

“Sleepy NZ seaside bach community”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

Has a nice, quiet crib (bach) vibe of quirky holiday houses and tidal inlet.
