“Central location in unique building”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

Stayed here for 4 nights. Great place to stay. Handy to central city and restaurants. Apartments were clean, warm (esp heated floors) and good sized. Full kitchen and laundry are bonus when travelling with family. Rooms are a little dark due to the nature of the building (which Jon the friendly/helpful owner explained to us).
Overall a great stay and would stay there again.

Great apartment for two couples wanting a super central, super convenient, and very well equipped place to stay in Dunedin. Not sure why other reviewers have complained about it being cold? We were there in freezing weather and the heat pump worked a treat, the bathroom floors are heated, and the beds have electric balnkets. Highly recommend this place. The only tiny niggle is the lack of window view to the outside, hard to know what to wear in the morning by appraising a sliver of sky. However the decor making the most of what is left of the old church is very appealing, andprobably hard to work around to make large windows.

With my eldest off to Otago Uni next year, we decided to do a recon trip to check it all out. It's been 20+ years since I was last in Dunedin and I have to say, what a beautiful city! We were delighted with the 2-bedroom apartment we booked, and with Jon's attentive service - we'd definitely stay again. The location of the Chapel Apartments were what drew us to book, and I confess to usually taking a large handful of salt when viewing photos of any accommodation posted online, but the photos on Jon's own website are totally accurate. It's the little things that impress me... the heated floors in both bathrooms, the uplighting on the beautiful internal stone wall and the oh so comfy beds.
Being central meant we were 200m or so from the middle of town, the theatres, pubs, cafes and shops. Not to mention easy walking distance to the Uni, Library, Museum, and most Halls. We were really pleased with the location and surprised at how quiet our apartment was. Once inside we weren't bothered by street, traffic or people noise at all.
Easily one of the nicest places we've ever stayed in.

The rooms were well appointed and located inside a tastefully renovated church. Jon and Angela were very easy to deal with, were very eager to help us with extra beds on a busy weekend. We couldn't have asked for a cleaner comfortable place to stay and would have no hesitation staying again. highly recommended

Room Tip: Our two rooms were double bedroom, they were both excellent

My colleague and I stayed three nights here in Winter 2012. The units are modern, clean, comfortable and handy to the town centre. The decor was interesting because we could see parts of the original church ceiling vault and out some windows we could see the stained glass church windows. Fascinating.

The ensuite bathrooms are small but have good storage. The shower had 7 jets including the huge shower head at the top. I couldn't figure out how to make the shower work to its full capacity but I did enjoy the overhead water.

There was a heat pump downstairs but when the door key was removed from the holder, the heat
pump was switched off. At the end of a long day I would have liked to have come in to some warmth but that wasn't possible. The heater upstairs was a bit annoying because it was on a timer
and every 15 minutes or so one of us would have to get up to click it back on again.

I would stay there again, maybe next time in Summer.

We stayed at Chapel for 2 weeks and loved it. We had everything we needed and Jon was very helpful. Our 2 bedroom apartment was spacious, warm and comfortable. Nice and central.
Wish we knew about this place earlier as we would love to stay here whenever we're in town! Would definitely recommend it to our friends going to Dunedin for courses, graduations etc. Thanks Jon and Angela!

Stayed in a two bedroom apartment with another couple. Very comfortable, warm and all the amenities, which are of a high standard. It's a very central location, with parking space and ease of access. You get privacy and are fully self-contained. Jon is only a phone call away, and was happy to give us a late leaving time. Worth a stay!
