Owner description: Explore an authentic example of a Chinese scholar's garden that celebrates the Chinese influence on Otago's history and heritage. The Garden Gift Shop offers the chance to find something culturally different while the Tea House allows you to take your taste buds on their very own tour of China. The garden is open every day expect Christmas Day. As one of only three gardens outside China and the only one in the Southern Hemisphere, it is a truly captivating cultural experience not to be missed.

Pricey to get into for something which is just a garden. However it is nicely done as you would hope.

“Very Calming”

This is a gem of a garden with a lovely tea room in which to enjoy dumplings and chinese tea. We're glad we spent some time here.

“Nice Rock Garden”
Reviewed February 18, 2012

This is not like the Chinese Gardens you usually see. There are few plants, it is largely rocks and water. It is also surprising compact. Having said that it is quite nice in its own way. I wouldn't put it on my must see list, but if you are heading to the Railway Station its worth dropping in for a look.

“Perfect”
Reviewed February 13, 2012

Great place for all ages and fascinating garden. I took 6 & 4 years old children recently and they were not ready to leave after 2 hours. Magical place with innovative upstairs room complete with dress-up clothes for everyone amd photo opportunity. Inspite of proximity to railway line and main road garden offers atmosphere of tranquility and peace
