Stayed 2 nights in a cabin with adult family. Found the staff to be extremely helpful, providing us with extra bedding, as we didn't bring enough with us. Walks from the camp to see the Glow Worms was an unplanned bonus. The kitchen had everything we required to self cater. Proximity to the CBD nice and close, although we had a car, walking was still handy.
The location of this camp is great: close to town and to routes to visitor attractions, yet in a quiet and peaceful valley away from city noise. It suited what we wanted in that respect.
We stayed twice in February 2013 and did four separate reservations during that time, including using one of the tourist flats for family members. Only on our last booking were we even asked about any affiliations that might have given us a discounted rate.
The customer service skills of the staff were variable. Some were excellent; others were grumpy and unhelpful.
The amenities were great and kept relatively clean, given the number of people using them. Laundry facilities were well priced and everything else was free.
One of our biggest concerns was about overcrowding. It was February, the camp's busiest month they told us, but for a small camp, they certainly pushed in so many campers and tents, it must border on overcrowding. It was virtually walk out your own door and trip over next door's tent ropes. I am assuming there are guidelines about how many sites can be located within a given area, (perhaps I am expecting too much personal space), but this camp must be right on those limits.
We will go back, because of the camp's convenient location, but it will not be during the busy season.
We only found this gem of a holiday park by following the blue signs as we entered Dunedin from the north - turn off the main road as you enter the one way system at the bottom of the hill. It is tucked away under the hills and is surrounded by a quiet tree lined suburb. We stayed in a tourist cabin where we supplied our own linen only. Very comfortable bed, clean and tidy, but not a lot of room if the maximum of 4 people were sharing the unit in one bedroom! Good laundry, common room/ shower/toilet facilities for campers. We were travelling in a vintage car and Jo, the hostess for the night, was very helpful in enabling us to do a necessary oil change by providing an old bucket and container for the old oil disposal, and also helped us contact an old friend, lent us some clothes pegs for the laundry line, and provided good advice on bus/taxi fares into town - thanks Jo. we enjoyed a meal in town and found it easy walking back to the park on a lovely summer evening.
We stayed in the one bed motel units, which are right next to main office. It had a comfortable bed, with a well appointed kitchen and bathroom.
Park has cartoon characters dotted around, playground equipment and a backs onto the river, with riverside walks and glow worms to see at night. Very quiet, green and family friendly, we would definitely stay here again.
We booked a self contained unit and were very surprised how nice it was as we payed only 81 Australian dollars. We had a lot of space and it was very clean. The Motel is a couple of km out of Dunedin, which I loved as it was quiet and green. I definitely recommend this Motel!
Agree with other reviewers - you need a car to counter its distance from the city. Other than that, can't fault this motel unit. Tidy, well appointed and spacious enough for a family of four. Easy check-in process and nice to have facilities for the kids to enjoy too (playground). Would definitely use these motel facilities again when visiting Dunedin with our own car.
