A very nice accommodation of our trip to Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula.
Jan and Mike have been very welcoming and made our stay perfect.

We stayed in a spacious room with kind of indoor deck chairs, which you can use to enjoy the great view over the gaden towards Pudding island.
-seperate living room with TV and internet
-great variety of tasty and freshly cooked breakfast options,e.g. pancakes and egg benedict
A highlight is the breakfast room - the breakfast is served in the 'Tower' - a room located on the upperlevel with a lookaround.

The house is located in 10min walking distance to Portobello center where you have some opportunities for dining.

When we got to Yellow House, we were immediately impressed with the colourful garden. Jan came to greet us and she was so friendly and helpful to get us settled in the place. We had the starry room for 3 nights and it was spacious, clean and the bed was very comfortable. I was impressed by the swivel chairs in the room to look up into the sky or relax watching the TV. Jan also made sure I had lactose free milk and made me amazing mixed berries lactose free pancakes for brekkie. I was very impressed with the options for brekkie and also we had an amazing view on the tower looking out at the pudding island every morning. I found Jan really passionate about helping us out organising our day and giving us wise advice with restaurants. It makes a big difference when you have wonderful hosts to look after u when you travel. The location was fantastic as we were close to albatross centre, penguin place and larch castle. Also we went to Allan's beach and the chasm nearby ( reccomended by Jan) which were stunningly beautiful places. We would stay at yellow house again if we ever go past Dunedin. Thank you Jan and Mike for being wonderful hosts. We wish you a great year ahead!! xx Aovana and Steve

Room Tip: Go for the Starry room!

Our room was very comfortable, neat and clean, with nice garden views and good wifi. The hostess was very friendly and talkative (we learned a lot about Christmas dinner in NZ!) and she served a delicious breakfast in a room with nice views over Pudding Island and the bay.

The Yellow House B&B is a beautiful place to stay and Jan is a great host. Jan was very friendly and helpful, most of all when our car broke down and she drove us some distance to meet the AA man. The B&B has a great location with great views being situated across from Pudding Island and the hills beyond, and is a very short walk (easy 5 mins) to/from Portobello for an evening meal (good steaks at the Portobello Hotel and the fish and chip shop is great too) . Our room was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Jan’s breakfast was fantastic, with all you could want to eat/drink and the eggs benedict with choice of bacon or salmon and pancakes with rhubarb were superb. Views at breakfast from the tower were great. Would really recommend staying at the Yellow House if visiting the Otago Peninsula and well worth spending 2/3 days to enjoy all that the area has to offer (e.g fantastic sandfly bay, views of allan’s beach and hoopers inlet from chasm/lovers leap track, penguin place tour).

Once again, we're gobsmacked by the amazing views and wildlife around the Otago Peninsula. The Yellow House is the best place to base yourself for a trip to Dunedin. Amazing rooms, accommodating hosts and yummy breakfasts. Very accommodating to our 3 year old. Thanks heaps Jan & Mike.

Room Tip: The Starry Suite is big enough for a couple with a little one. The bathroom has an awesome spa bath...

A very scenic drive out to Portobello from central Dunedin and this B&B occupies a delightful spot opposite a tree covered Pudding Island. Jan greeted us warmly and showed us to a comfortable room overlooking the front garden and island. We discussed dinner options though it seemed that Portobello offered very little when we were there. Thankfully, after a fantastic lunch at Fleur's, we were not too concerned but Jan kindly offered to provide all we needed to enjoy the local "award winning" fish and chip takeaway should we be tempted.

Unfortunately, both the albatross centre and penguin place were closed so we opted for a 10 minute stroll into the village centre passing the fish and chip shop en route. This was sufficient to tempt one of us though the small portion of blue cod was disappointing and didn't do the Sauvignon justice. During supper, we met Mike who provided valuable advice on our next day's itinerary - Nugget Point was a good recommendation.

The bed was very comfortable and the stylish bed linen also contributed to a good night's sleep. The bathroom was quite narrow and felt cold in the morning (shower only). It would have been nice to have had some comfortable seating in the room though the adjacent lounge was available to us.

One breakfasts in "the tower" on the top floor and we were offered either pancakes with rhubarb or eggs Benedict. The latter were the better choice. Mike and Jan were friendly and helpful hosts, Jan also very efficient - beds made ready for next guests whilst we breakfasted! We might have enjoyed our stay more had we not stayed out of season.
