We stayed in the older part of the motel. Our room was incredibly noisy - creaking from upstairs and the plumbing from adjoining units kept us awake. Good location but it is pretty dated and overpriced for what it is.

What an amazinf find - a motel in Dundein CBD that accepts dogs! This was a great place to stay if you want to bring your dog and the owners were really friendly. Whilst the decor was a bit dated, it was great to stay in a classic styled place.

Room Tip: let them know if you have a dog

Stayed for one night. It is really well located for the shops, restaurants and pubs at the top end of George Street. The owners are friendly and helpful. A lovely old building. The décor is older, but it is very clean. Very good value for money.

During our 3.5 weeks travelling in NZ we stayed in a number of budget motels throughout both the North and South Islands. This one however was by far the worst. We stayed at the Sahara for two nights at NZD 109 per night -- far too expensive for what it is. The room was dirty, dated and smelly. It looked as if it hadn't received any TLC since the 1970s. The mattresses on both beds were extremely soft and ought to have been replaced years ago. We could hear EVERYTHING happening in the rooms adjacent AND above us. The people nextdoor had dogs which continuously barked from 4 in the morning, so we got a really poor night's sleep.

Why two stars then? Some positives: the WiFi was good, there was off-street parking, and the staff were polite and helpful. On balance though, Sahara ought to improve this place or close shop.
