“Fabulous trip with awesome albatross viewings and yellow eyed penguin experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2014 via mobile

We undertook the cruise with the added visit to the yellow-eyed penguin reserve.
This was a fabulous excursion. The cruise was great and the provision of hot chocolate on what was a cold winter's day was a lovely touch.
Seeing not only an adult albatross in flight but also baby albatrosses on the cliff was something else.
We also got to see a number of seals, who were adorable.
The yellow-eyed penguins were something else and it was great to be there to see them not only on the land but swimming back into shore after an afternoon at sea.
The staff were very well informed and knowledgeable and it was great to hear about the animals and birds from them.
It was an added bonus to also see the little blue penguins in the nesting boxes.

“Albatross encounter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2014

The tour started from Dunedin but my family joined at Weller's Rock. Nice to see that they had an underwater camera to observe the marine life as the original party waited for us to join. I learnt that sea-squirts (ascidians) are related to us in our evolution as we are both Chordata. Our guide explained that they were possibly the most primitive members of the family but I pointed out that he hadn't met my brother, Nigel. [Only kidding!] The boat chugged around the coastline and cormorants, gannets and the different species of albatross were pointed out by the crew. We saw the albatross chicks on land (from the boat) and the adults flying close to the waves. It was a most enjoyable afternoon.
I would also like to add that the office staff were extremely helpful as there had been confusion over our booking. They went the extra step to see that we were right.

“Lovely cruise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 2, 2014

We had a lovely cruise. We were taken quite close to the cliffs and shown where the birds nest, etc. We were given very good views. There was also a great commentary about Dunedin and the area of the Otago Peninsula. The weather was cool but the boat was very comfortable. We enjoyed seeing the Lighthouse, also. The whole experience was very pleasant and interesting.

“The Otago Peninsula Wildlife Tour Offers it all”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014

We had one day to see the Otago Peninsula. That is a challenge. We did research and decided to go with the Monarch Wildlife Cruise Otago Peninsula Wildlife Tour. It is an all day adventure.

We were picked up from our B&B and spent several hours with our guide looking at the peninsula and see numbers types of birds. Our guide was so knowledgable and the variety of birds we saw was great. It was really a personal tour.

He dropped us off at the Royal Albatross Colony where we had a scheduled tour. It was so easy since they had us booked and we went right in.

The next stop was Penguin Place where we saw the yellow eyed penguins and learned about their habitat and behavior.

The last adventure of the day was a trip on the boat to see the peninsula and surrounding areas by boat. The captain of the boat informed us about the birds and sea life we were seeing as well as the history of the area.

We were then dropped off at our B&B at the end of the day.

This was well worth the cost of the trip and I would highly recommend this trip to those who are interested in seeing a variety of wildlife on the Otago Peninsula.

“"Monarch"; a 'must do'”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014

A trip on the Monarch is a 'must do'. Not only do you get to see some amazing wildlife, you see Dunedin from the water and get a brief history of the city. If you are in Dunedin for only a short stay you must go on the Monarch. Do not be put off if the weater is poor, there is still much to see and learn.
