“Love, loved it!”

Get out on the water, rain or shine! The chance of seeing the Royal Albatross is much greater when the weather isn't ideal for humans but the birds love it. So put on your long underwear if you have to, great rain slickers are provided and do this tour. The walk to see the penguins can be a bit slippery after rain so wear good sturdy shoes. We saw five types of Albatross, many other birds, fur seals and the adorable anti-social yellow-eyed penguins, so worth the time!

Hi LindaK - You're absolutely right - our best trips are often in a southerly storm. The albatross
soar magnificently in it! Bad weather is actually good weather!

“A must do.”

We were staying on the Otago Peninsular so caught the boat at its only stop from Dunedin. Parking could have been an issue had there been many others but as it was we were able to park up and wait for the boat. There were only a small number on this tour (the next one had over 40 schoolchildren) and we had great views of the albatross, fur seal and blue penguins - several swimming by the boat. We had visited the albatross colony the previous day and this trip really added to this - three different sort of albatross! We also saw a Hectors dolphin so were very satisfied. Worth doing since you see things from a different perspective.

“Amazing! Do not miss this experience ...........”

Did this as a trip from our cruise ship docked in Port Chalmers.
From initial e-mail contact I kew this was going to be a good experience! Prompt replies & all info I needed to organise this for our group of 2 couples.
We were collected from the quayside & driven to the nearby jetty to board a lovely, smaller cruiser before transferring to the main tour boat.at a small pier further down the Otago peninsula. We had time for tea & biscuits and a chat with the local skipper & our Monarch hostess during the transfer too! Scenery was just beautiful and so like our native Scotland!
Once on board the main tour we were treated to a vast selection of wildlife ......... 3 types of Albatross including a nesting colony high on the headland, Giant Petrels, Blue Penguins, Seals and more.
Once back at the pier we transferred to a small ouch for the scenic drive back to Dunedin where we were dropped close to the Tourist Information Centre, giving us the opportunity to walk around this lovely city before catching the cruise ship curtesy bus back to Port Chalmers.
Thanks to all at Monarch for the wonderful memories :-)

Took a 2 hour boat trip and cannot recommend highly enough. The commentary was so good it was unlikely that you would miss anything. two types of penguin, royal albatrosses plus many shags and waders. Fur seals resting on rocks-need I go on?The weather was great and we even got a cup of tea and biscuits on the way back.If you are in the Otago region do not miss out!

“Great experience”

We did the supper cruise out onto the Otago Harbour as a works function - beautiful twilight views as we cruised to Careys Bay. The harbour was calm and we were able to sit out on the front deck. Warm jackets were provided for those who did not bring their own and the crew provided excellent service. I would highly recommend this attraction for either a personal wildlife experience or as a function facility for a "works do" or private party.
