Bygone Era Bed & Breakfast

What a delight! We had two memorable nights at Bygone Era B&B recently (March 2012) and Angela could not have made us feel more at home or give us a more wonderful introduction to Dunedin. She is welcoming, knowledgeable, professional and generous and will charm you with her friendliness, wicked sense of humour and attention to detail. We stayed in the Elldan room, decorated in rich golds and reds and had a huge separate bathroom all to ourselves. Fluffy bathrobes supplied and the heated towel rail worked a treat. The bed was super, super comfortable and the turn down service is an extremely lovely touch - Lindt chocolates on the pillows, curtains drawn, carafe of water on each bedside table, heater turned on. All big pluses! And the breakfasts - well! Simply divine! Angela goes out of her way to get your breakfast just right and she remembers the little things that you like ie crunchy bacon even though that can be a challenge with the excellent produce she is using. We enjoyed the experience of Bygone Era B&B and would highly recommend it to other discerning travellers. We would definitely stay again. Thank you Angela. Keep well.

Bygone Era is a late Victorian/Edwardian home which Angela is painstainkingly restoring. The bedrooms and common areas are packed with original features and Angela has a great collection of period furniture -- check out the phonograh in the lounge. Our room was well furnished with a lovely comfy bed and a spanking new ensuite. Although it was one of the front rooms, we slept very soundly as the N.E Valley road is quite quiet. Angela is a very friendly and informative host with lots of advice on all the good places to see and eat. We unfortunately had an accident with our rental car out on the Otago peninsula (it was a write-off!) and Angela could not have been more supportive, caring and proactive in helping us to sort things out so that we could continue our journey. Lots of nice touches like the turn-down service (with chocolates) and a great breakfast menu including a special version of porridge, served with a wee dram of Scotch!

We stayed here in mid-March and were so glad we did. Angela knows what it takes to run a successful B&B and her attention to even the smallest detail did not go unnoticed by us. The house is a 1900's Victorian in a quiet area of Dunedin and is within walking distance to restaurants. The bedroom was comfortable with upscale linens and turndown service at night! The breakfast was delicious and we were given a menu to choose from. The french toast with bacon was perfect as was the attention to detail - silver service and china cups/saucers, etc. We would recommend this to anyone looking to spend time in comfortable and quiet surroundings with luxurious amenities.

On a recent 9 day holiday to New Zealand my wife and I decided to stay at B&Bs. We had many nice stays but the best by far was Bygone Era in Dunedin. Our host, Angela, could not do enough for us, even to the point of carrying our luggage to and fom our rental car!! She was helpful and knowledgable re sights to see and places to eat in Dunedin. But the highlight of our stay had to be the breakfasts. We chose Bygone Era B&B because of the rating and comments on Trip Advisor. Angela definitely lived up to these accolades

Loved it. Very nice bed and the en suite was well worth it. Angela was a great hostess and she makes a fantastic French toast - all the breakfasts were very good! Lots of extra special touches made for a very nice stay, we would really recommend this place to stay. The location is a bit out of downtown but great to be able to walk to the botanic gardens and there a some good places to eat close by - Angela gave very good recommendations for this and what to do in and around Dunedin.

We arrived on a damp day and received a very warm welocme with afternoon tea served in Angela's prized silver teapot.
'Bygone Era' lived up to its reputation - very clean, very comfortable beds with the quality of linens and towels we have at home.
Angela is hardworking, friendly and extremely hospitable. She offers advice when asked and is not intrusive. She offers a good menu choice for breakfast, using local produce.
