“For Christchurch, Look No Further”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

Our experience here set the stage for a great stay in Christchurch and became the litmus test for food and lodging during the rest of our three-week NZ trip. As others have noted, the location is ideal - an easy walk into the (rather depressing) Christchurch CBD and then onto the beautiful botanical gardens. Very friendly owners who make sure everything is shipshape and the kitchen is stocked for breakfast and snacks all day. The rooms are wonderful; updated and modern but still retaining the charm of the original historic building. Don't worry about noise coming from the pub. For whatever reason, it was very quiet even though you're right next door to a (incredible) pub. The pub, also owned by the innkeepers, is outstanding. An impressive array of craft beers from Christchurch and across NZ and a respectable wine list that also shows off NZ's best. The food was delicious too; "gastro pub grub" using the freshest ingredients and assembled with care. Turned out to be the best fish and chips we had in three weeks (and we know our F&C!) The smoked salmon salad also set the standard for the rest of our time in country. When we were there the weather was beautiful, so we could enjoy the cheery atmosphere of the garden and later retire into the very Englishy pub feel of the interior to listen to excellent live music. All this on a Sunday night!!

We loved our stay at Pomeroy's. The rooms are beautifully presented and decorated and it was lovely to have our breakfast in the breakfast room with the big table and complimentary newspapers. The owners were also very welcoming and accommodating, allowing us to leave our bags for the day after we've checked out. An added bonus of staying here was the fantastic pub next door - a great atmosphere, drinks menu and fabulous food! Very good value and one of the best places we stayed in New Zealand.

We stayed for 3 nights. The pub is only a 15 minute walk from the centre of Christchurch. The room was very comfortable and well furnished, and quiet - not withstanding being next to the pub. Excellent continental breakfast, and drinks you could help yourself to at any time of the day. The breakfast room had a good selection of guides - a thoughtful touch. Free and easy to access Wi-Fi. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Amazing choice of craft beers in the pub, with a good choice menu. the food was excellent value, well cooked and presented. A bonus is the eclectic range of live music on a number of nights. A really good value B&B to which we would return to again if visiting Christchurch

The rooms are beautifully decorated and a complimentary continental breakfast and free internet are provided. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This boutique hotel/B and B has a great ambiance. There is also a warm friendly pub/restaurant next door with great food and live entertainment. I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: various prices to choose from.

No amount of words can express the fantastic stay my husband and I recently had at Pomeroy's. The Pomeroy family and staff could not have been more hospitable or friendlier - true old style family pub with service to match. We stayed in the Garden room which was beautiful. There is a breakfast spread of food laid out all day everyday incase you want to snack at breakfast or during the day. Beautiful food in the pub, a welcoming drink for the first night and amazing amazing service by the staff within the pub. By the second night we had met almost all of the Pomeroy family who appear to know everyone who comes into their pub and take the time to say hello to everyone, along with showing us the workings of the pub and providing us several samples of their amazing beers. A must stay!

Room Tip: The Garden Room is beautiful and absolutely no noise from the pub at all!

I just LOVE your place! It is my second home now. It is so cool to rock up, have my own carpark,The welcome glass of wine at the bar goes down very well come 5pm. I love the well stocked Dining area...( Cups of Tea and nibbles at 2am if the need arises)..and fresh bread in the morning, complete with Newspaper. The Rooms are very cosy and comfortable, the toiletries much appreciated, as are the comfy Beds and nice linen.I would never consider staying anywhere else, Thanks Steve, Aiden and Laura....

Room Tip: Perfect for couples also.
