Love this restaurant and it's even better in its new larger premises - look for the tree with lights at the lower end of Manchester Street. Took my partner there for a romantic Friday night dinner as a surprise and timed it to arrive as the belly dancing began (it was 7.30pm Friday evening). We were seated in a lovely low table in the corner and it was such a fantastic experience! The food was yummy and tasty and came out promptly. My two favourites are Topkapi Beef Kofte and the Baklava and they do great cocktails! It was a busy evening in the restaurant and the staff were still really attentive. The prices are really reasonable, especially if you like the kebab option - it isn't much more than a takeaway price. This place is worth visiting for the atmosphere alone.

This experience was a bit like a visit to Fawlty Towers. We hadn't been to Topkapi since a while before the first quake and we won't be going back. We were seated by the back door where if a staff member was taking something out to the rubbish, it let in a blast of cold air. This should be screened off! Freezing! And also it was too close to toilets. Food - well it was very average apart from the kebabs. We were disappointed that the meat Iskanders were no longer on menu and menu seemed limited and much more expensive than it used to be, but it was the terrible service that will see us not return. Asked for extra bread to go with dips (as was recommended) and it didn't arrive so we asked another two times for it and it finally came during our mains, by which time remaining dips had been whisked away. During the meal our dishes were constantly being cleared. We got asked at one stage "Have you finished because we need to stack the dishwasher"!!!!! We could only laugh! There was a mix up with an extra dessert and when we said we hadn't ordered it, the waitress took it to the bar in a huff, and her and the woman who seemed to be in charge were obviously annoyed and discussing us at the bar. Would have been a nice gesture to give us the dessert seeing they had stuffed up so much so far, but no, they didn't. To top it off, the bill-paying at the end with two Entertainment Book cards was fascinating. The waiter put through the weirdest set of eftpos transactions which meant we had to sort it all out later. A bad start to our weekend. Life is too short to eat at restaurants with extremely poor service. Atmosphere nothing like it used to be which is sad.
