The Bodhi Tree features Burmese cuisine. This was the first time I had tried Burmese. The menu says Burmese is a blend of Indian and Chinese, both of which I like a great deal. I found it to be better than even the best of those.
I ordered the tea salad and the squid. Both were outstanding. The salad was light and delightfully crunchy, while the squid was tender, and not at all rubbery. It had just the right amount of basil to perfectly compliment it, and a teasingly evanescent hint of heat - the most delicious squid I've ever eaten.
The menu recommends ordering three items per person. With wine and dessert (semolina and coconut milk cake - yum!), my tab came to about NZD50.
The restaurant is small and very busy. As this is one of the most popular restaurants in Christchurch, reservations are essential. (Reservations are recommended for most restaurants in Christchurch; many are still shuttered because of the earthquake.)
