“Great Value for Money!”
Reviewed December 29, 2013

Stayed here on a last minute trip and as many other reviewers chose it based on the relatively cheap rates. I stayed on the 7th floor (second from the top) and had a nice view of the container mall and wider CBD area. The room was very well presented and the bed was comfortable. The only issue that I had with the room was the size of the bathroom. It was very small. Also, the shower pressure was very weak.

Breakfast and a secure car park were included in the rate. Breakfast was great but what male doesn't like a full cooked buffet meal. The staff were very friendly and were more than helpful with the couple of queries that I had.

The only issue was the lack / price of WiFi. Overall I would definitely stay there again.

I stayed at this hotel during the Christmas time. It was a last minute trip. I chose this hotel partly because the rate was reasonable and the breakfast was included. The Christmas dinner was a nice surprise, as it'd be hard to find a place to eat during the time. This hotel was well presented, with the amenities one can expect at this price range. The location was perfect for public transport and RE:Start mall. Staff members were courteous and efficient. However, I'd like to have changes in the menu for the breakfast. The King size bed was only joint two beds. The wifi was expensive, and Trade Me Free wifi signal just worked fine. Overall, it's nice experience.

Room Tip: High level room with a view

I stayed here for 4 nights during early December, in the early New Zealand summer. The rooms were comfortable and quite, though not fancy. You have to pay for wi-fi, though I think you can get ethernet connections for free. The staff is friendly. Though clean when I came in, the cleaning each day was a bit under-done. It's in the center of the city (what's left of it, or being re-done) and easy to get around from there. There is a restaurant in the hotel that is fine, though not excellent. The "hot" breakfast seemed over-priced to me, though the "continental" was pretty good. It's certainly a perfectly good place to stay in Christchurch, though I can't say it's anything to get extremely excited about on its own.

Room Tip: Room w/ a "city view" are nice, but more for the mountains in the distance than for the ci...

Dear Matthew L,
Thank you for your review and it was pleasing to see that you found our staff were friendly and the rooms comfortable and quiet. We are working hard to provide a good standard of service so it is nice to see that acknowledged. The rebuild of the city is most definitely underway and the Ibis is well located for watching the progress.
We hope to see you on your next visit to Christchurch.

Kind regards

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights (17 and 18th Dec) and found this to be a really functional hotel. Close to the restart mall and other attractions. They had a handy map showing the remaining restaurants in the vicinity following the earthquake. Staff at reception was nice to point out a really nice place which was not indicated in the map. Had breakfast there and found it to be really good - The coffee house restaurant and cafe, just at the intersection of Hereford St and Montreal St. Rooms size were not big but it suits perfectly well for us. However, due to space constraints, two of our single beds did not have a separate bed linen and was given a single big linen. Maybe they could look into providing bathroom slippers too. Jonathan at the Oopen bar was very sincere and friendly. Booked shuttles through them which was no hassle. Overall, a great hotel.

I chose Ibis as it was one of the few hotels left in central Christchurch which were still open. It is within walking distance to most tourist attractions and shopping areas. The room was big, contrary to most reviews (however, my standards are low as I am comparing to most similar hotels in Asia). The room was basic but clean and well arranged. The toilet was a little small but clean.

Breakfast was provided and the spread of buffet was surprisingly good. Staff was courteous and attentive.

i recently stayed for a week, with work. The hotel must have some of the smallest rooms i have ever encountered. The bathroom door needs to be kept open in order to dry yourself. As other reviewers have noted , it's the only building standing in a sea of empty space. The only other building is next door which my room had a great view of, is condemned and not occupied. Its right across the road from the “re start” shopping mall and Ballyntnes, department store. So you can do your shopping right there. Its very spooky being there in the middle of the city rebuild. There are so many empty spaces and crumbled ruins around.
The internet is free in the hotel lobby and the restaurant, but if you have to work, then you`re hardly going to be able to do it effectively in the hotel lobby. Sorry, not good enough. Ok for back packers and tourists.
The best thing about the hotel is the restaurant, the food is really very very good, especially dinner. In a budget hotel you expect more “pub style “ food, but this is a revelation. The breakfast buffet is very good as well.
The beds are very comfortable, and the rooms clean.
Finally, the staff are super friendly, and eager to please.

We expected more from Ibis. Our room for the three of us was very crowded. We wish there was a microwave, although clearly there was no place for one. The location is in downtown, but given Christchurch's condition since the 2010 earthquake, thus is not necessarily a good thing. The area around is like a ghost town. WiFi is limited to 30 min and only in the lobby. Parking is free only in the few spots across the hotel. Otherwise - $18 per day.

Dear 17suzan17,
Thank you for your review and for staying at Ibis Christchurch. Our rooms are not large but are comfortably appointed to meet our Ibis brand. As you point out we do not have microwaves in our rooms but we do have a restaurant which is very popular. We are located immediately over the street from the Restart Shopping Mall and within very easy walking distance of most of the sightseeing attractions. We do provide 30 minutes free wifi in both the lobby and restaurant and bar areas.
