First rate B&B with wonderful hosts Jan and Leigh.
Excellent rooms and food, Jan and Leigh do everything they can to make your stay in Christchurch memorable.
Situated next to Riccarton Park, Anselm House gives the impression of being in a semi rural setting despite being convenient for the city centre. Quiet and tranquil. With beautiful gardens, in fact a friend of ours enquired if the photos of the garden that we took were pictures of the Christchurch Botanical Gardens!
10 minutes easy drive from the airport and easily found, it makes an excellent first stop when arriving in Christchurch.

If you want an excellent B & B out of central Christchurch but within easy walking distance this is the one for you. Your hosts, Jan and Leigh are quite charming and most welcoming. We stayed before 5 years ago and when we got here this time it was just like coming home - the welcome was wonderful. The breakfast is always excellent with a great selection. We stayed in the river room, which overlooks the river and although not large is most comfortable with a good en-suite.

Wonderful hosts, lovely historic home with both Riccarton reserve and Mona Vale just around the corner.
Jan keeps a spotlessly clean and beautiful home in a quiet residential suburb of Christchurch. Everything thought of in the house, and wonderful attention to us - Jan and Leigh are very engaging and exceptionally helpful.

My wife and I spent the first day of our honeymoon at Anselm Housee . It is less than a five minute drive to downtown Christchurch. Even though our flight was delayed for a few hours, Jan was still waiting for us when we arrived and gave us suggestions for things to do downtown and places to eat. When we got back, we were able to check up on email through their free wifi, so rare in New Zealand and a nice touch.
The room itself is spacious with a large ornate bed on which we slept wonderfully and a desk and multiple chairs set up if you need to work. The bathroom has a heated towel rack and heated floors which were great. They have grown a beautiful garden and the property is situated on the Avon river making for a great setting.
In the morning we were treated to Jan's amazing breakfast. She put together a fresh fruit salad, yogurt, toast, cereal and eggs benedict. Her homemade jam is amazing! Jan and Leigh were great company for breakfast, providing us details and suggestions about driving routes and more things to do in New Zealand.
When we had to leave, she had packed us up some cookies and her homemade jam. We ate the jam everyday for the rest of the week and were sad when we had a little left that security at the airport made us discard.

My wife and I recently traveled to New Zealand and made reservations at Anselm House Bed and Breakfast for the day of our arrival as well as the night before we left the wonderful world of Southern Island New Zealand.
Our hosts, Leigh and Jan, were absolutely marvelous. We felt more like family than we did overnight guest.
Jan is a wonderful cook serving us a hardy breakfast with lots of homemade goodies to enjoy. Both Leigh and Jan had many travel thoughts that they shared with us to help us in our travels.
When we return to New Zealand this will be a spot on our itinerary.
Thank you Leigh and Jan.

Anselm House was our first experience of a B&B in New Zealand, and what a wonderful experience it was. Jan and Leigh were very friendly, gave us good advice on what to see, including the beautiful Mona Vale House, and made us feel at home in their beautiful home. Our bedroom was very comfortable, and Jan's breakfasts were delicious. We walked into the city and explored the sights, and also were able to get a feel of the local area and restaurants.
