Unfortunately when we arrived, Merivale Manor had overridden our booking with another booking and had us as arriving the next day even though we had confirmed our booking by phone three days earlier. Management were very apologetic but we were put accross the road at Merivale Apartments into a 3 bed unit - this place is really noisy with alot of traffic noise!
When we did get into Merivale Manor, we were happy with the family unit, it is nice and quiet and has good kicthen facilities.
The family unit: one open plan room with a queen bed and a seperate single bed. We had plenty of room for the cot also.
Although it is clean, the condition of the place is average, it could do with a good sugar soaping up high in the bathroom and there are gaps under the main door to outside and in the bathroom that all sorts of creatures could get in. A bit of a paint and freshen up would do this place wonders before it becomes tired.
Location is brilliant, a short walk to Merivale mall which has bars and eateries, supermarket and some clothes shops..

Very personable welcoming! The rooms are very comfortable size. Heat pumps for the room and electric blankets on the bed. Spa bath in our room. Very clean. Good rate. Great location. Numerous great restaurants within a 3 block walk. Internet access is included in the rate.. the fastest connection in 3 weeks in Australia and New Zealand. Can't think of a single thing negative about this place. Would come back in a heartbeat.

This lovely old house has a certain charm about it. We spent a total of six nights here and felt very much at home. Our 1 bedroom upstairs apartment was small but cosy and clean. The extra touches were much appreciated, such as breakfast supplies and a kitchen tidy bin with a recycle compartment. Our trip was to visit ailing relatives so it was a comfort to have such a good place to stay. We didn’t notice much traffic noise, although there was quite a bit coming from one of the houses next to the manor where children were bouncing on the trampoline. The mattress was a bit hard and could feel the springs, but this was minor. The staff and owners were friendly and obliging at all times and I was thrilled to be able to get some washing done and dried on the clothesline before returning home. Thank you to Mike and Samantha for your hospitality, we will definitely recommend Merivale Manor for anyone travelling to Christchurch.
