Forget Central Park in NY! Hagley Park is the largest open space - at 165 hectares - in urban Christchurch. There amongst other things you can see the botanical gardens, go punting on the river Avon, play golf, cycle, run or be taken through it or hang out with your kids. What foresight to have this asset there, and to fiercely protect it from encroachment by roads etc.

I've been to Hagley a couple of times and there is plenty of open space, used at the weekend for organised sports and events you'll see plenty of joggers and cyclists on their lunch breaks

Nothing to dislike. Sad that Cunningham House conservatory is closed due to earthquake damage, but botanical gardens and the rest of the pak are still great.

If you love roses like I do then make sure you go when all in flower...beautiful and stunning are just two words to describe. Well maintained grounds and lakes and heaps of sporting facilities too. Toilets are okay.
