Restart Mall along Cashel Street is definitely a unique shopping experience. Where else can you find a shopping area composed of merely containers- banks, restaurants, cafe's, souvenir shops, apparel stores. And they sell good quality food and clothes, at a clean and wholesome place, with manicured pocket gardens, etc. And the prices are very reasonable.
Make it a part of your walk of the city of Christchurch, from the Botanical Garden, to the Museums, to the damaged Cathedral, Arc of Remembrance (with bridge), etc. Its part of the city experience. We came as tourists and we were glad we shopped and ate here.
Bravo for the Kiwi innovativeness !

Been here to restart mall many times just the concept of walking into a shipping container mall is interesting the 2 storey coffee shop's are incredible the clothes and food shops and banks all in containers its incredible. On my first visit there staff in container shops told me they felt safer in container shops than there original shops as containers nothing can full on you if another earthquake. There is also food court with great array of food options. One of those places you should try just once

Brilliant to see the container mall, how business have been resilient and kept the centre of town alive after out shake up. Important that we support their businesses as they have supported Christchurch. Lots of interest

I had heard the container city was very good but much more impressive than I expected. Some great initiative in a city being rebuilt.

I really enjoy our regular trips to Restart. There is always lots to do: cafes, market, street entertainment, art, Ballantynes, the English grocer, base pizza, great planting.

Things are starting to change too with containers moving, portaloos coming back in place of the container toilets etc. While its nice to get the building started, I do hope that they retain some of what has become an iconic mall.
