I love the city of Christchurch and its citizens. I have holidayed there three times, twice before the earthquake and once since. We chose to go into the city center to support the remaining businesses. It is a defining moment when you walk into what was once a majestic, vibrant and funky city and witness the devastation that now consumes it. If you were to see only the damage you would think that Christchurch has lost its heart, however you step onto Cashel St and realize it has only moved! The container city is genius! The stores are funky and cool, the pop up restaurants and cafes serve some of the best food and coffee we had all trip. It was a nice feeling to support those that could start back up again, it is inspiring. Cashel St had such an impact on my husband and I that we have forgone our traditional house plans and are in the process of designing our own shipping container home!
Next time you are in Christchurch go and spend some time and money in and around the remaining businesses they need your support not your stickybeaking!
