“Don't Miss Quake City”

Spend the $10, allow yourself a couple of hours and you will learn a lot and experience a roller coaster of emotions as you watch the documentary from a selection of people who survived or were affected by the quake. Their stories were touching, inspiring, often sad and sometimes funny. You should buy the by post cards that show the before and after the quake of several buildings. Spend time in their gift shop before moving into the ReStart Container area

“Good place to experience what Chch went through!”

Its a great place if you want to see how the earthquakes changed the city. The tour in there was emotional with the pictures of the rescue operations and the collapsed artifacts on display, but a well worth experience to gain.

“Great impression of the quake”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

Visited the museum by accident. Just walked in and took the tour. If you dont know about the quake that destroyed downtown and much of the city anf this is a place to go and get an impression. It was quite good to see and when walking around the city you might get a glimpse about the city before the quake! Check it out!

“Educational and inspiring!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

We spent three hours there and loved it. There were information, displays, and exhibits about the causes of the earthquakes (tectonic plates, liquefaction, etc.), important items salvaged from buildings after the quake, and a nice shop. A highlight was a film (60+ minutes) of touching and inspiring interviews of people who survived or were affected by the quake. A LOT of information is a small space. Wish I could get a pair of the "aftersocks" created as a fundraiser ... they sold out quickly!

The museum sits among the containers of the "Restart Mall." These small shops are in themselves delightful, and a testament to the persistence and optimism of the people of Christchurch. As Quake City testifies, they truly view the quakes as an opportunity and are taking advantage of it.

“Located in the City Re:STORE Area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

If exploring the recovering downtown area with container stores and earthquake ruins, do visit the Quake CIty Museum as I did. They have great narrative on the earthquake situation/rebuilding and a video archive of testimony of survivors which were insghtful and relevant.
