Description: Benvenuti. Since 1991 Cafe Valentino has been one of Christchurch's favourite dining and drinking destinations, and it's easy to see why. Cafe Valentino offers superb food, an excellent bar and great atmosphere! Lunch at 3.00? Dinner at 9.00? No problem! Café Valentino is an all day restaurant. Enjoy a drink at the bar choosing from more than 35 selected wines by the glass, a superb range of local boutique beers and international beers on tap including an Italian selection. Or try a cocktail from our contemporary and classic mix. If you are a wine connoisseur try a wine from our 'Vault' collection which offers over 60 of New Zealand and Australia's finest wines including a great selection of our world famous Pinot Noir. Thirst quenched? Time for some great food! Try a pizza, the sort of pizza that only an Italian wood fired oven can produce, or try something from our pasta selection. Or perhaps one of our award winning New Zealand beef and lamb dishes. Since 1997 (except for 2012 when we were destroyed by an earthquake) Cafe Valentino has been awarded the coveted Gold Plate for New Zealand Beef and Lamb excellence. Finish off your meal with one of our delicious desserts, everything is made fresh daily on the premises. Our full menu is available on our website. We look forward to seeing you soon at Cafe Valentino. Ci Vediamo Presto

I really like the place. Very good options of Appetizers and Main courses, and the best, several different Beers and Wine. Excellent place to have a friendly dinner. Indeed I will return. Do not forget the desert, even the chocolate or the pudim are amazing..

Booked a table here for 5.30pm on a Sunday evening. Was not busy or noisy at this time. Lovely food. Tasty and reasonably priced. Our family of four were happy with our choices. Desserts were delicious too. Service was good and quick. Was made aware of the closeness of other tables once the restaurant started to fill up. Way too close for comfort. On leaving, I felt awful for a table of 6 diners having to lean forward and push their chairs in to allow us to pass through. Overall, I would definitely return but not during their busy times.

Very busy for a Tuesday night -- after all there's not much in CHCH yet - post 11/2/11 - the place was packed - it was 7pm - didn't have a booking - but they found us a table for two.
We ordered mussels - simply superb. Then kidneys - still a bit chewy with sinews- plus .. the special ravioli - which had walnuts in a pork mince stuffing - in a cream sauce - a little too salty. - but overall not too bad. Highlight of night was retiring to bar for caffe & grappa - the young Italian bar man (recent arrival) and I - compared notes on Marcello Mastriano's seduction techniques. He served up a grappa from his home village - it was pure ambrosia - magnifico. We will be back again one day.

We had a nice night at Valentino. The food was good and for the price I wouldn't fault it. You get what you pay for, good honest serving and tasty as well.

However, in my opinion they have over crowded the restaurant with a few too many tables. It made our table of 6 feel way to cramped to really enjoy the experience. They had set us up 3 on each side of the table . We asked if they would mind if we used the ends of the table and were originally told no we couldn't do this. Strange but true. Late on asking again we where then told that would be fine and the tables either side of use were pushed away a little to allow us to use the ends of the table. This made the seating much better.

Be aware due to the number of diners the noise level gets very loud. Not a place for a romantic meal or id your hearing isn't he best!

On a funny note the menu is so large in size that when we all had our menus open you couldn't see anyone else at the table.

So if your after a night out with god food and don't mind a little noise give it a go.

We visited Christchurch last week - and were really looking forward to a night out at Valentinos - but unfortunately the atmosphere was very noisy, we waited 15-20 minutes for our wine and the much anticipated ravioli was bland, soggy and stew like (not true Italian) and overall the experience was disappointing.
