We had a great dinner here by the fireplace. The fish special was good and the dessert with the carmel corn popcorn was interesting.

Under the legacy of the Bon Boli, my favourite restaurant pre quake... from hence I am still mourning the garlic fondue. First time back to try this place. The decor was fun. The Bogart/Hepburn movie in the next room a great touch. Service was good. Wine list ok. Menu sounded great. Interesting flavours and intelligent. But no.... the entree of goats cheese and ginger wafers with honey was just that... too, too sweet and I have a sweet tooth. The wafers were ginger snaps and the honey was straight. A friend has the fish which was beautiful . Served on a bed of barley and olive, of itself delicious, the blend didn't work. The beetroot risotto was ok but too uniform as a main. The steak, while perfectly cooked, was plated deconstructed style by slicing the steak in two and was just silly. Overall the chef/s here know how to cook but need to back off the fancy stuff and do just that.

Staff were great. We had a crying whining child through most of the meal (not ours and its parents did nothing to comfort or control it!) and the staff looked after us with little freebies, excellent food advice and aplogies for "the parents and the child"....... Food was superb and fantastic quality.

Fabulous meal for our first day in Christchurch. Hot Dog prawns, Bluff oysters (natural and tempura) - blue cod special and filet steak (rare) - super dessert and cheese.

Went here for dinner having arrived late into Christchurch. It was busy so we had a drink waiting for a table. When our table was free we were told waitress x would be serving us. She never appeared and we eventually managed to get the manager to take our order. Food was well presented though not up to the pretentious descriptions. Nice bottle of wine and we did enjoy the main course. It then became obvious that we would not be invited to have a dessert as the waiting staff started to leave etc.
Might be OK if your early enough but my impression was the lack of competition in central Christchurch has made them complacent.
