Under the legacy of the Bon Boli, my favourite restaurant pre quake... from hence I am still mourning the garlic fondue. First time back to try this place. The decor was fun. The Bogart/Hepburn movie in the next room a great touch. Service was good. Wine list ok. Menu sounded great. Interesting flavours and intelligent. But no.... the entree of goats cheese and ginger wafers with honey was just that... too, too sweet and I have a sweet tooth. The wafers were ginger snaps and the honey was straight. A friend has the fish which was beautiful . Served on a bed of barley and olive, of itself delicious, the blend didn't work. The beetroot risotto was ok but too uniform as a main. The steak, while perfectly cooked, was plated deconstructed style by slicing the steak in two and was just silly. Overall the chef/s here know how to cook but need to back off the fancy stuff and do just that.
