“Great food, awesome service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

Came in over the long weekend with my Dad, The restaurant was busy but that didn't stop the efficacy of service.
Our lovely waitress lizzie was very helpful in recommendations for the menu, we selected tasters to share, pancetta croquettes, goats cheese with ginger bread and truffle honey and Salmon wings, served on a platter to share and absolutely amazing. We then had Lamb and steak, both beautiful cooked, all in all a great night with excellent service....thanks Lizzie for a great evening!, we will be back!

“Fiddlesticks Flop”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

On a cold October evening we came across this restaurant which was warm and looked welcoming. We didn’t have a reservation and were told by the waitress that they were fully booked, very busy, but that we could eat in the bar area where there was a fireplace. Sounded great. We were served promptly by an American who gave the impression he was passing through on a backpacking tour – tell you why in a moment. Anyway, he took our orders – we both ordered linguini with prawns. Having lived in Aussie now for many years, but Cantabrian born and bred, we asked where the prawns were sourced from. The waiter looked perplexed for a few seconds, then the penny dropped and he pronounced a name of a place that I had never heard of. Luckily, I have a degree in Languages and Applied Linguistics, and deciphered this mysterious word to mean ‘Akaroa’. “Fiddlesticks!” I thought to myself, seeing a similar reaction from my husband, having never heard of a prawn coming from Akaroa. The food came. It was the worst meal we’ve ever had. Questionable ‘linguini’, more like spaghetti, canned tomatoes and four tiny curled up tasteless ‘prawns’ – I actually felt sorry for them. We asked for some parmesan to go with it and again got a blank stare from the waiter who returned with some in a plastic black cup thingy. The meal was totally tasteless and we were going to send it back, but were too hungry, so just left most of it and bought fast food on the way back. BTW – the place was nowhere near full – lots of empty tables, so it wasn’t booked out – now I know why.

“As good as it gets”

impressed with the modern setting with infused with nice coffee smell. It was perfect for our wake-me-up labour weekend.

Had the coffee and muffin deal. Coffee is top notch, raspberry white chocolate passion fruit muffin was to die for. Need to come back for a full sit down meals soon.

“Food was exceptional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2013 via mobile

Went to fiddlesticks as a family of 5 and couldn't speak highly enough about the food. the salmon wings with licorice mayo were something else as was the Blue Nose with pistachio and lemon. Best fish meal I have had for a very long time ! Hard to fault overall except perhaps the wine list which, while reasonably priced, didn't offer quality to match the fantastic food.
