Stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment (the second bedroom was actually a mezzanine floor with two single beds) which had two bathrooms and full kitchen and a balcony.
The apartment is very tastefully decorated, clean, modern and had plenty of light. We looked out to a view of the hills and to the remnants of the city. It was a quiet area after dark and we had lovely morning sun on our balcony.
Bathrooms were well appointed and had lovely powerful hot showers. The under floor heating beneath the tiles in bathroom and kitchen was a luxury.
Great location to base yourself to explore the rebuild.
The Town Ball (The massive rugby ball used to promote the World Cup) was two minutes walk away, and there were many fabulous restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance and not much traffic!!!
I would recommend C 1 Espresso at 185 High Street for brunch/coffee and Baretta for a meal (make a booking as very popular)
Overall fabulous accommodation and we got it through Wotif for $199 was $299
There are other types of rooms at this accomodation and you pay accordingly.

Room Tip: Pay for the best room we had room 3 I think it was - on the first floor.

Very centrally located, around the corner from the red zone!
Small basic studio apartments with modern facilities.
Kitchen available down the hall if you do wish to cook.
Had to call reception to come down (not there normally) which meant less approachable to ask re places to eat etc.
Small bathroom but modern and clean.
Small kitchenette well stocked with plunger coffee and teapot.
Couldn't figure out how to turn the heater off (seemed to be set permanently on) which was annoying as it was quite warm during our stay. Also blinds rather than curtains which don't block out light well.
Request parking in advance as limited free spaces.
A few places to eat/drink at in the surrounding streets or you can drive out to the suburbs.

Having booked a mystery deal with Wotif and then read reviews we arrived with mixed thoughts and expectations. We found our studio clean, comfortable, very well equipped and adequate for a two night stay. The apartments are located in a more industrial area and were very quiet; although at times we did hear doors shutting or some voices these were not distracting and at no time disturbed our sleep. The bed was okay, one side being pushed up against the wall made it awkward to get in and out of especially if the other person was sleeping. The ensuite is tiny but the shower was fantastic; would return for the shower alone. The communal kitchen & lounge areas were well set out although not obviously used by other guests when we were there. There are three restaurants within a two minute walk; supermarkets are a few blocks away. We had not organised to park at the apartments and there were no reserved spaces available; however there is a pay and display ($3 for 12 hours) adjacent and street parking was also available.

Room Tip: Ground floor had no issues with hearing guests living above. No elevators to upper two floors

It was a really good location to see my old (near unrecognizable) home town. It is really good for the price in comparison to other hotels in the area. Good service from the receptionist. Room was comfortable although small also it got quite hot for the afternoon sun.

This hotel is not a hotel or apartment stay... however, it is clearly a backpackers delight! Cheap, "hangout" lounge with tv and video games, lots of other young backpackers and young adults.

Pros:
New
Modern design

CONS:
Paper thin walls
Black hair on the sheets and counter tops
Very small
uncomfortable
located in a horrible part of town surrounded by rubble that still exists from the earthquake.
