This bus tour is worth doing to discover and understand what the post earth quake city is like (the 2010/11 ones). The motel pick up is a nice touch and then a Punt on the Avon is relaxing and shows the beauty of the botanical gardens area. Then back on the bus to Sumner by the sea for a short break. On the way we learnt and saw a lot about what calamity the City has endured and I was amazed at the resilience of the people to continue on and to see demolition, repairs and rebuilding happening all around. A stop at the lookout was useful to get a panoramic view. Then onto a comfortable little 'train' which took us around the Bot Gardens with the guide naming the significant plants and trees. Then back on the bus to be dropped off near 'container city' to conclude the trip. One thing extra I would have liked was a bit more history ( Maori and settler) to add some depth to my understanding of the area.
