We stayed here 3 nights and although the inside paintwork needed a good clean or better still a lick of paint, we really felt comfortable here. As others have previously said, it is more like a small private hotel than a B&B. It is in a good location for eateries and sightseeing. Our bedroom was at the back of the house and had en suite facilities. The dining room/lounge is quite impressive and is a comfortable place to sit and drink the glass of wine that is offered each evening. Breakfast was good, all in all, a comfortable, friendly place.

Orari is a great little find in the heart of Christchurch. It is a lovely building and feels like a bit of an oasis. It has a small but lovely garden albeit next to a couple of main roads. The service is warm and friendly and they will make a great effort to make you feel welcome. Whilst the building has a lot of character outside, it is a bit more like a hotel inside and this also applies for the rooms. The room we had was very large and the bed very comfy but the bathroom was a bit odd although everything was very clean indeed. It was though a little noisy which was fine although we had to shut the window at night to shut out the sound of those who had come out of the pubs and clubs. Breakfast was good and served in the lovely period dining room.
In terms of location it really is near everything in the city and it's really quite unusual to get a B&B like this in such a central location. This is certainly to its credit.
Whilst it may not be the best B&B in Christchurch, overall, I think it's excellent value for money and would recommend it.

This pleasant B&B was just what we needed after flying in from the UK. The intention was to just get some sleep before starting our touring holiday the following day. We knew the location was central but were amazed at how accessible everything was. If short on time I suggest you do the same as us, which is to make your way over to the River Avon and follow it through the park, the botanical gardens and then end up at Cathedral Square. There are also some great restaurants nearby to try out.

We took the smaller room 4 upstairs which is a bit cheaper but does have an ensuite bathroom, the hotel emailed to say that this was a smaller room which was perfect as we just wanted to catch up on our sleep anyway. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom great, in addition the whole place was very clean and professionally run.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here at Orari. We had a wonderful room upstairs in the corner (room 9), which was VERY spacious and had two giant windows which let in a lot of light. Initially, it felt more like a hotel room than a B&B, but the hallways definitely felt like walking down a hallway inside someone's house. The staff was very friendly and helpful and asked me how I was feeling after an afternoon 'under the weather.' There was a great social hour in the evening with wine....except that we were the only people. But it was still fun! We had time to peruse their extensive library of books and magazines. Orari is in a great spot too, being just a 5 minute walk from the city centre. Breakfast in the morning was also a nice start, but not as gourmet as some of the past B&Bs we stayed in while in New Zealand. Still, we had a very nice stay!

We stayed at Orari for three nights at the beginning of our trip to NZ. The location really is perfect and somewhat justifies the high cost of the B & B. The garden around the house was lovely and the house itself is much bigger than it looks on the outside. Our room was clean and comfortable with an odd arrangement of artwork in different styles. The bathroom across the hall got a little old after three nights. The bathroom key was hard to use. There was no good way to differentiate the bathroom key from the room key and I got sick of fumbling with it while hoping other guests wouldn't see me in my PJs. A color-coded bathroom key would have been great.

The hosts were very professional but not overly friendly. The breakfast room seemed a little awkward because the hosts were like waiters at a restaurant so people didn't really mingle. That would have been perfectly fine but the tables were close so if you talked everyone else in the room could hear you. As a result, almost everyone ate in silence. A little background music might have solved this problem. Either that or the hosts should make some effort to introduce people and get them to sit at the communal table. The breakfast itself was good. I especially liked the variety of fresh fruit and the muffins.

We stayed here for 1 night of our honeymoon, and it is indeed in a very central location. We had one of the upstairs rooms, and it was spacious, comfortable and full of light (initally we were shown a downstairs bedroom which seemed very dim in contrast). We found the hosts to be polite but not warm/personal. It was the third B&B that we stayed in during our honeymoon in NZ, and by far the largest, and perhaps because we stayed in two smaller and very friendly B&Bs immediately prior to Orari, Orari seemed quite impersonal in contrast.

Great 2 nights spent at Orari. This is a huge older house with about 10 different rooms. Ours was quite quaint, with older/antique furniture throughout. Again for American tourists, we weren't quite prepared for no central heating - but easly made do with the space heater and lots of blankets. Free wine is provided each evening. Breakfast served in large main dining room, and was great. Great walking distance to most anything - the gardens, city center, bus stop, and restaurants (Dux de Lux was great). The proprietor, Ashton, was amazing. He went over the top on service here. We asked for ideas of Internet Cafe, and he pulled out his laptop so we could check about a problem back at home. He also helped with restaurant ideas and getting is a ride to the airport. We had to be at the airport early, so Ashton even left out the toaster and cereral so we could grab some food before we left. Extremely kind and gracious host. Would definately stay here again for the great location and his hospitality.
