My husband and I stayed at the Orari Bed & Breakfast during a driving tour of New Zealand. We had a little trouble arriving at our destination because of road and bridge repairs--that's what happens when you rely on GPS. However, once we recalculated and found our way to 42 Gloucester Street, we were amazed. Our room was stunning with dormer windows and beautiful view of flowering trees--it was large and lovely. The common areas are authentically decorated. with great respect for the history of the house. The staff is helpful and charming--and breakfast was perfect. The location was great--no driving--we walked to everything in the city. It was difficult to see the damage in Christchurch from the earthquake, but uplifting to hear the stories of recovery and resilience. The unlimited WiFi was a nice plus in the room. I wish we had more time in Christchurch, but I am so glad that while there we were able to experience the peaceful and charming accommodations provided by Orari.

I was with my kids 11yo and 8yo, we loved that when you walk in to the room, it feels like country home, there is a window that looks out to the garden, and the lounge and dining area are always lit up, pretty and well presented. The breakfast is made for us as we wake up so it is fresh and warm. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Wi Fi is free and unlimited which was great value for my modern gadget operating children. The place is so central to everything and a stone's throw from the botanical gardens. The bathroom is renovated and modern, which was a great relief as I hate scary old tubs, sinks and showers. Our stay was indeed very pleasant (2 nights); we were just passing Christchurch on to our wild west driving adventure. Will stay there again when we are in the city.

Beautiful and historic boutique accommodation.
Near botanic garden.
The size of the room is very different. Some very large. Some rooms are very small. But for the same price. Some bathrooms are not included in the room.
Good service.

Room Tip: Do not forget to ask about the size of the room.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We have ten rooms and each room has it's own bathroom, 8 of which are ensuite and 2 are directly opposite the rooms. Fortunately there are NO shared bathrooms. The size of the rooms vary but they are not all the same rate. The rates vary depending on size, outlook and whether or not the bathroom is ensuite. The smaller, rooms have a lower rate, as do the 2 rooms with their bathrooms opposite the room rather than ensuite. I am pleased you enjoyed our service and hope we will have you to stay again when next you are in Christchurch.

regards,
Jan (Manager)

We traveled all night from Hobart Tasmania and were so tired when we got to Christchurch. We were allowed to check in early and have a lovely hot shower. We had a nice lunch visited the museum and botanical gardens all in easy walking distance then turned in early. So peaceful and relaxing. Great breakfasts and staff were so friendly and accommodating. Perfect place to start our New Zealand holiday. Thanks Orari.

My partner and I were in Christchurch for one night on a recent South Island adventure. We arrived in the middle of the day, and though easy to find the address, with the roadworks happening at the time the exact entry was a bit confusing. Once we figured out where we were, the manager was lovely and very accommodating.

We were told there would be some complementary wine in the late afternoon but unfortunately missed this due to exploring the red zone and meeting up with a friend. We were recommended the B&B based on the bacon and egg breakfast, but unfortunately as we were on the road again by 7am the next morning, we missed this.

The room was lovely, and I understand recently renovated. The ensuite bathroom was in great condition and the bed was super comfortable! I love the luggage lift also - great not to have to carry our heavy bags up the stairs (though due to our early departure we did have to lug them down, which was easy enough too).

Overall, Orari B&B is in a very handy location, in great condition and the manager is lovely. Just to note - some of the car parks are a bit awkward, so I'd recommend you park early and walk places, or have a small car!

Room Tip: On booking you get to choose your room. Although located on a busy road, we didn't notice the tr...

Beautiful house, well located in the city, with great comfort and friendly hosts. Our room was very large, fully equipped (TV, alarm clock, hair dryer...) with a car park, which is always nice in a city.

We had a 3 night stay. To keep the review brief I will 'bullet point' all the highlights of Orari that we enjoyed
* Location. We could easily walk around the city
* Information. The map and supply of information was good, especially restaurant advice.
* Large room, and we could control the temperature ourselves.
* Underfloor heating in bathroom and fantastic shower.
* Delicious breakfast, sets you up for the day.
* Use of lounge and wine at 5.30pm.

Couldn't have been better, even the weather (mid-winter) was kind !
