“Excellent B&B in Christchurch”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

Orari has the most important feature to lots of us : location. It is located just beside the Canterbury Museum anf the Hagley Park and is right at the city centre which makes it easy for you to go around by foot.

Jan and July are excellent hosts, she made sure we had everything we need and she made the arrangements for the shuttle to the airport, she showed us ways and gave us maps to the bus Intercity bus stop and there were wines every afternoon.

The room was very clean, the bathroom works well and overall it was perfect!

We will surely come and stay again in our next trip.

What a wonderful bed & breakfast the Orari was. In Central Christchurch just on the edge of the red zone and near to some excellent restaurants, bars & the information centre where most of the tour buses go from.

Jan & her team really look after you with a hearty breakfast served on a grand table to evening drinks in the drawing room. This gives you a chance to mingle with other quests & tell of our daily adventures.

Rooms are very nice & have their own style, with complimentary tea & coffee and comfy beds.

Jan’s local map is a must & has all the main landmarks on it.

Room Tip: 10 rooms which you can look at on the website.

I chose this property for it's heritage appeal and location central to Christchurch and close by the airport. I stayed in July 2012 with my daughters in an upstairs room. It was comfortable, warm and with basic facilities. The lounge area downstairs was quite and quite grand, with old world charm. Once we checked in, we never saw the owner/host again, which didn't matter much, but it felt like we were alone in the house. Street noise outside was hard to block out, but overall, we enjoyed our stay here and I'd stay again in the future.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the front of the house and therefore the street and street lights.

The staff at Orari was very cold and unwelcoming toward us. I was sitting in the lounge, reading and the manager comes in as she's leaving to go home and shuts off the radio and closes the curtains as I'm sitting there enjoying the music and watching the clouds go by outside. Whenever we asked for something at breakfast they made an exasperated sigh and reluctantly went and got it. We once asked for toast, and it took 20 minutes, and we got cold toast!
We will definitely not stay at Orari again.

Orari was a wonderful place to base our travels out of and to spend our last week. We initially used it as a base for our overnight travels and Jan was wonderful letting us store our suitcases. We spent our last week touring christchurch with short day tours and trips. During our stay we had yummy daily breakfast, wine every evening. Our room was large w/ extra chairs to relax in. The bathroom slightly small but more than adequate. Our room was quiet and the bed very comfortable. Jan provided us with a map and highlights, places to eat, shop etc... There were umbrellas available for rainy days! I would highly recommend staying at Orari and when we travel back will again stay there again. Thanks Jan!

Room Tip: We stayed in rooms 8 and 1. Both were wonderful.

My husband and I were in our last days of being in New Zealand after two months of travel celebrating our 42nd wedding anniversary and were so grateful to find the Orari B&B. We loved our sweet cozy and spacious room. The owner was so attentive to our needs helping us with restaurants and information on things to do for our last two days in Christchurch. The location was perfect for visiting the Botanical Gardens, the RESTART Area downtown since the Earthquake, and walking distance to a very good restaurant Fiddlesticks. We had a car also so that we could easily drive to explore Akora on the Banks Pennisula, fantastic car journey! Loved the little French village of Akora also. Our hostess also told us about the Court Theater which we loved. Christchurch lost it's famous playhouse and it has now been redone in a great way. We got to see The Women and had a delicious dinner at the nearby Peddlepusher Restaurant. Delicious food. Christchurch is regaining it's city year by year and we were very happy to have been able to so easily explore it from the Orari. Don't want to forget the yummy breakfasts, homemade goodies each day, and a glass of wine in the afternoon. Would recommend and return here anytime.

Room Tip: Loved our room on the second floor at the end of the house with the great window seat.

My brother and wife booked this amazing place through their travel consultant in England. I live in Upper Hutt and tagged along and Jan managed to book me in on short notice. I stay in a lot of motels normally for work and it made a nice change to stay in a B&B. the room although a little small had everything I needed and was comfortable and quiet. The breakfast was great and Jan couldn't have been more helpful. Maybe a little on the pricey side but you really get what you pay for and I don't mind paying extra for decent accommodation.

Room Tip: If you have trouble going up stairs and have lots of bags ask for a downstairs room
