“Good food, not a cheapie”
Reviewed September 8, 2012

I had takeaway from here last week and was very happy with the food. Produced nice and quick. Staff are helpful enough, but a bit stiff. Waiting spot for takeaway is a bit squeezed, but they were so quick it wasn't a bit problem. Decor looked nice.

“not value for money”
Reviewed April 28, 2012

Had the banquet $35 each and proved to be not value for money
There are far better alternatives to indian food with inadquate mains and if it wasnt for the nam bread filling you up it would be a case of going to MacDondalds afterwards
The amount of meat you get each dish is miniminal

“What I've been looking for!”
Reviewed April 27, 2012

Went there after reading about chocolate naan (skip it)..
Also had paneer shimla mirch - absolutely fantastic.
Chicken saag - ditto.
Couldn't believe how fantastic it was.
St Albans - Wouldn't recommend eating in the restaurant as it's pinched for space and very loud.
Service is fast and recommend ordering takeaway ahead of time so you don't have to stand there drooling and waiting for food.

“Nice neighborhood curry house”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

First time I have been here but with the dearth of restaurants in Christchurch, one has to expand the search for decent food.

The location is a bit average (in a small mall) but on entering the restaurant, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm environment and it looked like people were enjoying themselves. I was in a group of 7 so we just ordered a mix of main courses, with rice and naan bread. The food was pretty good...I very much enjoyed the chicken jalfreizee and could taste the individual spices, which is always a good thing.

I tried a few of the other dishes and they were also tasty. I'd like to come back and try a broader range of food. It's a good local restaurant with friendly service and a warm environment. It's a BYO and worth a try.

“A bit of a mixed bag”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

Location - A convenenient and easily found venue on on the north side of earthquake city.
Atmosphere - Incredibly noisy. No soft furnishings to dampen the sound and large groups on a night out made the noise level such that conversation was less than easy for an older diner with diminished hearing.
Service - Couldn't be bettered. Slick, attentive, no waiting. Although it was very busy the starters arrived promptly and then the main dishes at a nice pace after that.
Food - A bit ordinary. The vegetable pakora starters were too big, too floury and barely spiced. Mains of chicken prosht and prawn jalfreezi came in what tasted like the same gravy. The chefs got the heat right but, again, inadequately spiced. Perhaps they are spicing the food for Europeans and their 'delicate' palates?
Prices - About average for Indian restaurants - around $20 for a main. Wine $30 a bottle.
Overall - a popular Indian restaurant that has been in this location for quite a few years and is now very popular due to earthquake damage closing down the centre of the city. There are better Indian restaurants in Christchurch.
