Imagine hand feeding a majestic giraffe; seeing New Zealand's only gorillas; eye balling the magnificent white rhino; meeting New Zealand’s national icon, the kiwi, or travelling through the Lion Reserve! Over 400 animals representing more than 70 species are displayed at the Park. Regular animal feed presentations occur daily and are accompanied by a presentation from a wildlife guide. Visitors can enjoy the antics of tigers, cheetah, Tasmanian devils, monkeys, meerkats and more. Two large walk-through aviaries enable you to see some of New Zealand’s unique native birds and Orana is home to a wide range of native reptiles. Visitors can pet domestic animals in the Farmyard. Orana is internationally renowned for its involvement in zoo-based breeding programmes for endangered exotic and native species. When you visit, you are supporting our conservation work. It’s a full day of fun for everyone at Orana Wildlife Park!

We went at feeding time hoping to see the cheetahs chase meat behind a truck, but it was cheetah starving day I guess. Still very fun to see them, and also the meerkats, porcupines, and river otters.

We went just on spec as we had a spare day on our round trip of the South Island. SOOOOOO glad we did as it is a really excellent organisation with good standards of animal care. We paid the extra to go and feed the lions from a cage on the back of a truck!! What a day, lions climbing up the side of the cage and walking about on the top. You are only 12 inches away from their faces and claws. Luckily none of them needed the toilet whilst they were on the top as it is a cage roof and you are right underneath! We then moved on to feed the giraffes which was slightly calmer. Orana Park is an excellent organisation. Not to be missed, a once in a lifetime experience as no other zoo offers this.

Feeding the Lions trip is extra to your ticket but very worthwhile. Feeding the giraffes is included and great fun. Most of the staff are engaging and interesting with 1 exception. It is great to wander around and take time to really watch the various animals. A super afternoon out.

We spent a wonderful hot day at Orana Wildlife Park. We didn't use the Shuttle and walked around the park after the feeding times so we got out of the crowd and the children and often felt like we were on our own. It is great to take some time to let the eyes wander around and just watch and explore. Have never been so close to tigers and lions before. Definitely a place for grown ups too!

We visited for a couple of hours before our flight back home and really enjoyed it. Apart from a rude young woman serving at the cafe, all other staff were very friendly and polite. We enjoyed a ride on the shuttle which included great information about most animals. The talks at the birds sanctuary and the one about the Keas are not to be missed. Feeding the Giraffes was a highlight. We wished we had had more time to keep walking around enjoying everything that the program has to offer. And I had to buy an animal face hat from the shop, looks very cute on my 11 month old.
